Transcript of A shipping education in south africa ged
The ICS is the only international professional body representing shipbrokers, ship managers and agents
throughout the world
25 branches worldwide 4,000 individual members
105 company members
We further the education of maritime industry workers with internationally-recognised
and respected qualifications
Our qualifications are practical and invaluable to those in the industry
The ICS is a leading international professional membership organisation
for the shipping industry
ICS SA follows the byelaws set by ICS and the rules of corporate governance, which set out how the Branch should be run.
We have an office in Durban, which is manned by three full time employees. They run the administration for membership , education and training, fund raising,
and functions.
MEETINGS & FUNCTIONS At least six main committee meetings are held each year. The committee consist of
a Chairman, vice Chairman, Treasurer, Education Officer, and eight other members or fellows. Among the matters that are considered at committee meetings are Finance, Education, Functions, Membership and Ethics.
At least six functions are held each year with guest speakers, who talk on shipping related topics. These are usually attended by some 50+ members, who also use the forum to network.
FUNDRAISING & THE EDUCATION FUND Each year two Golf Days are held, one in Durban and one in Johannesburg. There
are usually between 60 and 80 players, who attract sponsorship for the Education Fund.
The Branch has a separate bank account from the daily current account specifically devoted to training and education, and is known as the Education Fund. A separate committee decides how the funds from this account should be allocated in terms of bursaries and funding of worthy causes.
