A SHELTER IN THE DESERT is the result of a succession of facts, ex-periences, dreams, quests, and among all, the need to find a way to express the feelings in the life of a group of friends; from the com-plex and profound, to the day-to-day and shallow.

Friendship was the primary factor that took 5 individuals to venture in an endless search for an outlet to their feelings, emotions, thoughts and philosophies, to feel and live in a way that would set them free, help them share their vision of the world and most of all, make them feel the euphoria, release and freedom of being able to manifest their feel and thought.

All of those things they shared came to a paroxysm by founding a All of those things they shared came to a paroxysm by founding a band in March 2009 through music, which represents a fundamen-tal part of their lives from a very early age and in many different ways. Thats how they established the proper mean to express all the things they partake to be concentrated in sounds, melodies, at-mospheres and rhythms.

Despite having different influences and music taste, it was not difficult to find a converging point: POST-ROCK, which was never seen as a music genre (being that they do not consider it to be exactly so). For the members of A SHELTER IN THE DESERT it was always so-mething exotic, a music trend that all of them, almost at the same time, discovered by chance, surfing the web, in the need for finding new styles and sounds to take them somewhere else, to satisfy their emotional needs being pursuit in music listening. That was and still is emotional needs being pursuit in music listening. That was and still is Post Rock for them.

For such reason, the sound of A SHELTER IN THE DESERT could be con-sidered among the Post-Rock stream, whose versatility and richness broadens their possibilities at making music, since it contains music forms that go from classical music structures, going through the standard instru-mentation of all ages of Rock music, as the strength and roughness of metal, adding mixtures and rhythms that could have been evolved from jazz, traveling through different measures as in progressive metal, or even instruments that are usual in Folk music, that have not much relation to rock, but help in the venture of creating atmospheres and melodies with distinct colors, beyond rock.

A SHELTER IN THE DESERT can also immerge into experimentation: the challenge to find music inside any material object or even the use of tech-nologies to create sounds. All of this converges in some series of musical landscapes, full of crescendos as in classical music, just like our lifes have their ups and downs.

Due to all this features, A SHELTER IN THE DESERT decided that Post-Rock was the ideal style to create their music and achieve to express however they wanted, since there are no limits soundwise and even tho it can be classified and sorted, the possibilities are endless: it is actually that freedom that appealed to them.

The motives and the inspiration for A SHELTER IN THE DESERT come from the countless branches of art: in all, music, art, literature and visual arts. All of them amalgamate to express one or many things, in different ways and distinct textures; complementing their music with an illustration, a photograph, a video or a text, creating complicity to extract inspiration from all this things. Therefore, no matter their origins and differences, this line up, shares their most sacred likes, and whatever comes to their minds, helping them to find ways to create music.minds, helping them to find ways to create music.

All kinds of styles have passed through the bands ears: from rock in all its forms and subgenres, especially the ones developed in the 90s (alternative, nu metal, grunge, metalcore, shoegaze), the virtuosism, ele-gance and spontaneity of jazz, the magical and traditional sounds of folk, music for classic cinema, of course, classical contemporary music, and so many others throughout the world. All this modalities origined in diffe-rent times and ages, cultures and continents, were imperative to concei-ve music in the way that A SHELTER IN THE DESSERT currently does.

A vision of music as a mean of sanity for the soul, and a portrait of the condition of the human spirit".
