cÜxá|wxÇà|tÄ g|wu|àáWell, the Holidays are coming faster than the time we have available to get all ourplanned projects finished... But, I would still like you to schedule 2 hours of yourtime for the Glendale Quilt Guild this month. On Wednesday, November 14,please plan to attend our workshop/social program. The old saying goes “there areno leaders without followers.” With your support this can be an opportunity toshow the generosity and many talents of our own membership.

There will be lots of cutting, sandwiching and sewing going on in addition to eating, chatting andlaughing at our November meeting. Join us for an old-fashioned quilting bee to see if we can get alot of quilts finished. What better way to spend an evening than in the company of fellow quiltershelping others? All fabric, batting, thread, snacks, beverages and fun will be supplied!

Reward yourself for a job well done by attending Carol Andrews’ workshop on November 18 (freeto all members!) and making a tree skirt for yourself or as a good holiday gift project. Check fordetails on the workshop page.

I want to thank all the new members and board members who attended the New Member Tea at myhouse. A “Special Thanks” to Jean Giacomelli for helping set the tables with the beautiful placesettings of china and teacups, plus the really clever fancy shoe gifts. The Board provided thesandwiches, salads and desserts – all delicious. I am sorry for the spectacular conclusion to the event. Thanks to my many health guardians who quickly and skillfully came to my aid.

Another big thanks goes to all the “quilt holders” who assisted during Show & Share and also heldup the speaker’s trunk show quilts. REMEMBER EVERYONE – Bring a quilt to the Novembermeeting... We want to see it whether it’s your favorite quilt, first quilt, latest quilt, worst problemquilt – just a quilt and a short story for our continuous Show & Share to go along with our continuousbreak. Also, anyone is welcome to bring munchies even if you are not on the “list” for November.Try to bring some veggies and fruit because we don’t need any sugar highs!

Hope you will join us on the 14th -

Hello everyone!

Our quilt show is shaping up quite nicely...

I was able to go to the Marriott and see some of the renovations that they havebeen promising. Well, let me tell you - the West Tower, closest to the ConventionCenter, is done and the rooms are FANTASTIC! Forget those old polyestercomforters and dark rooms. The new rooms have rich cotton bedding and lots oflight plus plasma TVs, multi-media centers and BIG closets. They have re-tiled thebathrooms and now have boutique amenities. Please book your rooms SOON!

The “early bird” cut off date is March 5th, 2008, and our special show room rate of $118. will be increased to the normal rate of $250. thereafter.

2008 Show T-shirts are IN and will be available from Cathy Euler at the Novembermeeting! The Wearables entry form is now up on the website, and I will have moreentry forms at the December meeting, as well as ALL the show merchandise...

Come prepared to shop!

The 3/4 sleeve shirts = $25. The 2008 tote =$15. The show pin = $5. AND The “new” show charm = $7.

The Mighty Minis have the volunteer sign up sheets - so please start planning foryour hours. Speaking of volunteers, the show board has decided that the MarriottCertificate, for a 1night stay (that we give away every year), will be drawn from themembers that complete their 2 hours of service. Your chances have never beenbetter to win a free night at the Marriott for the 2009 Show!

The vendor contracts have been sent out and Vendor Chair Jean Giacomelli hassome great new participants in the mix. Start saving your pennies!

The brochure will be out soon so look for it in the mail and at the Decembermeeting. Also in December we will be signing up TA's for the workshops.

Finally, I would like to announce that we will also be hosting award winning quilter,Sharon Schambers, at the 2008 show. Look for new classes from her in machinequilting and long arm quilting!

If you would like to be on the set-up crew, see me at the December meeting. I stillneed mucho help getting this show together so please come and get involved...

I appreciate all your help,

Minutes for last month were voted

upon & approved as written.

Treasurer, Nancy Mraz reported an

ending checking balance of

$3,867.54 as of 9/31/07. A motion to

approve was seconded & approved.

Reports: Alice Smith reported she

will be in Virginia from 10/15 to 27,

and that we’re still waiting for vendor

selection for the 2008 show. We

need to finalize vendors quickly to

begin collecting fees. The roster is

holding for affiliate confirmations.

Those unconfirmed this week will be

left out of the roster.

Susan Edwards announced she had

sent the following cards: Thank You

to Betty Rick for donating books to

our library; Leah Bessey – Get Well;

Debbie Berlin – Get Well. She also

announced the purchase of 2 books

to be donated in the name of

members who have passed away:

Bonnie Grasse & “Chic Bags” for

Ruthe Davis.

Heidi St.Royal announced the book

sewing machines for use to help finish

on hand for sale. No “stuff” table will

be available during this meeting.

Amnesty for overdue books will be

offered during November & December.

library. The next meeting will be

Tuesday, 10/16 at 7:00 PM.

Pat Grim reminded everyone of the

bylaws stating 2 years as the

maximum term for each position on the

board. We need to encourage new

people to volunteer for positions to

stimulate activity & bring in new ideas.

Every position on the board should

have a notebook with the previous

years’ information & procedures. This

is necessary for the continued success

of guild operations & to maintain a

smooth transition for new people

taking over the position.

The workshop with Lynn Brown on

10/13 was cancelled due to not

enough sign-ups.

in December.

It was recommended that we focus

on in-house workshops during the

summer months to accommodate

vacation schedules. Suggestions for

2008 in-house programs included:

strip poker with Jelly Roll strips

handout (bring 20-2 ½” strips to play

with); quilt ideas by Las Pulgas to

use the strips; the guild to purchase

books for resale to membership

(Strip Happy or other strip piecing

books from Amazon).

Membership – The new member tea

is scheduled for Sunday, 10/7,

however, only a small attendance

has been confirmed so far. Jean

Giacomelli has been calling each

invitee to get confirmations & board

members are encouraged to attend

& welcome the new members.

The December general meeting

potluck & program were discussed.

Suggestions for the program

included: ornament swap,

membership potluck participation to

include main courses & side dishes,

not just salads & desserts. It was

suggested the guild should provide

drinks, cups, plates & utensils

instead of expense of ham or turkey

this year. The board will discuss

further at the next meeting.

Agenda item for the November board

meeting: Increase in membership

fees for next year. It was suggested

that we include a ballot in the

newsletter to solicit votes from the

membership.

applications. Melinda Helscher

announced that the volunteer sign-up

sheets are available tonight. Per Karen

Millman, the challenge supplies are

here. The hotel is taking reservations

and already 4 suites are booked.

Loretta Bradley, the guild greeter, will

match roommates upon request.

Jean Giacomelli, membership chair,

reported that there were 3 renewals

tonight, 84 members in attendance

tonight and 3 guests who were

introduced. Jean apologized for not

having the roster ready to have this

month. Working on the vendors for the

show has kept her busy, but the roster

will have 276 names and 17 affiliates

and be ready in November.

Gloria Flores and Gloria Molina

presented Block-of-the-Month. Winners

of the 42 “opal” blocks were Margaret

McNeal, Frances Brandon and Corinne

Gurney.

Door prizes were provided by Patchwork

Penquin, Candy’s Quiltworks, patterns

from our speaker, Lyn Brown, Halloween

pattern, fabric, and sac from the Las

Pulgas mini group, Quilt N’Things, and

The Quilt Attic. Dovie Kapoh won the

“Boobie Prize”.

Rasa Read is featured in a Quilt Show

along with Ester Norbut on November

11th at St. Casimir’s Parish Hall.

The Doctors House has been decorated

by our guild. It is open 2 to 4 pm every

Sunday in October. Thanks to Pat Grim

for coordinating this PR event.

Rasa Read, 2009 Show Chair, is

working on themes for our 30th show. A

clue of what she has in mind is related

to the old saying “You are not a quilter

until you make a blue and white quilt.”

After the break, Sue Vite introduced the

speaker, Lyn Brown, who presented

her program entitled “Oops, I made a

Beautiful Quilt”.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm
