JMJ

1 March, 2016 My Dearest Parish Family,

God be with us always.

My mother used to say: “It does not hurt to ask.” This is what I remembered as I began writing this letter. I had an opportunity to get an update of the how much we have collected as the response to the PSA Appeal almost three weeks ago. As of Today, $32,546.00 has been paid and $38,059.00 has been pledged by 64 families. Seeing the number that was paid and pledged, I asked myself did we not make our case, or have people not submitted yet their pledges and gifts because they were not given a time-frame?

I prayed, took a deep breath and came up with the resolved remembering my what my mother used to say. So I am humbly asking and pleading to the kindness and generosity of your hearts to please do consider your 2016 PSA Pledge. We have a long way to go still. I am not sure if you are aware that there are several incentives given when we complete the assessment at a given period of time. Last Sunday, I also mentioned that we should all focus on the giving and participating not just the amount of the gift. I was very consoled to see some people walk out of the Church with the PSA envelope in their hand.

Let us make the coming weeks of March as our Offering of PSA Envelopes at the Saturday Vigil and Sunday Vigil Masses. I believe in the concern and support of each one of our Parish Families and individuals. I have hope in my heart that the gifts and pledges out of grateful hearts will start coming during our offertory. I have faith in what Scripture also tells us: “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you

shall find. Knock and it shall be opened up to you” (Lk 11:9). I am asking for your help. I am knocking at the doors of your generous hearts and I hope we shall all open our hearts to respond fully to support the PSA and the needs of our Parish Family.

God bless and take care. Love and prayers, Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

“Women and Discipleship” is the title of Chapter Six in our study of Women in the New Testament. Many Catholics are unaware that women were among those who followed Jesus during his years of

ministry. Most also do not know that they would have been relied on for financial support or for hospitality and church leadership. Some of the women named in this role are Mary and Martha, Mary of Magdala, Joanna, wife of Chuza, Herod’s Stewart, and Mary, the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the Sons of Zebedee, Susanna to name a few.

Jubilee Year of Mercy - Fourth Sunday of Lent On Laetare Sunday, we rejoice as Luke’s Jesus proclaims that God is boundlessly merciful. The parable’s prodigal son returns home, not authentically repentant but desperate, having squandered on prostitutes (or so his older brother claims) the inheritance wrongly demanded while his father still lived. This selfish son is only spared ritual “shaming” when the father “shames” himself, running to embrace him, interrupting his prepared “act of contrition.” By doing so he challenges confessors, and all of us, to be signs, says Pope Francis, “of the primacy of mercy always, everywhere, and in every situation, no matter what.” Avoid the harshness of the elder son, Francis warns, “who stands outside, incapable of rejoicing,” his judgment “severe, unjust, and meaningless in light of the father’s boundless mercy” (Misericordiae Vultus, 17). If John’s Gospel is proclaimed, the “religiously observant” people there likewise serve to warn against harshly judging others, for the physical blindness of the man they expel from the synagogue is healed, while their own blindness of heart remains.

¿Cómo puedo llevarlas a cabo?
