Education has the capacity to profoundly impact lives. This is the very reason for the establishment of our foundation – and continues to be the main driver behind PINTAR’s key tenets. The year 2014 concluded recently, and throughout the year, the importance of education was impressed upon, and remained to be one of the recurring themes from all sides. Debates and discussions were made on the Malaysian education’s quality, ' Z ' instruction, and the list goes on – but what lacks in agreement, the commonality remains – that we all care about the nation’s education, and that it has the power to change our children’s future, as well as the nation’s.

PMLU continues its journeyThe “PINTAR Mobile Learning Unit” or PMLU, a bus converted into a fun learning place exclusively for students of PINTAR schools concludes 2014 with a two day visit to Iskarnival, an annual education and property fair in Johor, organised by Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah), UEM Sunrise Berhad and Iskandar Investment Berhad. The carnival marks our PMLUs’ last stop in 2014 before it goes through a makeover for next year’s theme, which is “Promoting Intelligence.”

Both of our PMLUs, PMLU 1 and PMLU 2 have visited a total of 252 schools, orphanages, as well as events in the year 2014 across the entire peninsular Malaysia. Awareness and fund-raising drive at MICF and Iskarnival 2014

PINTAR participated in two exhibitions in a bid to bring awareness towards our cause, as well as to raise funds through the sales of our books. The exhibitions are the Malaysia Islamic Children’s Fair (MICF) held in Shah Alam Convention Centre and Iskarnival 2014 in Nusajaya, Johor Bahru.

An overwhelming crowd of 10,000 visitors was at the exhibition, and showed a keen interest in PINTAR’s two published books, which are “Beating the Odds” and the “Malaysia Artbook for Children.”

Both books were also the main feature at Iskarnival, where a crowd of 20,000 attended. Also at PINTAR’s booth at Iskarnival, was a mini library and board games that children could use.

Both books are available for purchase via our website at www.mypintar.com.my or by emailing our marketing and fund-raising team at [email protected].

Improving school attendance with KidZania promise

Following a meeting with the teachers of SK Petaling (1) on 2 July 2014, Danajamin was made aware of the declining attendance levels, particularly for Year 6 students. The teachers themselves have exhausted every avenue possible to encourage the students to attend school. Danajamin delivered the spectacles to the students on 18 November 2014. Needless to say the students were happy to receive them. UEM Sunrise also recently concluded its Green Campaign 2014 with a prize-giving ceremony held at SK Nusantara, Gelang Patah for all of its PINTAR schools. The ceremony was graced by the Nusajaya State Assemblyman, Yang Berhormat, Dr. Haji Zaini Haji Abu Bakar who presented the prizes to the schools along with UEM Sunrise’s Senior General Manager, Nusajaya, Encik Mohd Nadzari Haji Bachek.

Since 2010, the Green Campaign has sought to create environmentally responsible school students who are $z, =<&> K Zinculcate green habits in students and develop their awareness on climate change.

The PINTAR schools comprised 11 of primary schools and four secondary schools. This year, UEM Sunrise in collaboration with Department of Environment (“DOE”) Johor, under the Education Unit, designed the Green Campaign in the form of project work for participating schools. The project required each participating school to beautify their school compound, landscape corner or any form of creative corner in a way that resembles a green and sustainable environment. The project took place over three months starting from July to September and was funded by a cash grant amounting to RM1,000 for each participating school.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, UEM Sunrise is committed to building sustainable communities in environmentally friendly living spaces. The Green Campaign aims to educate the younger generation on the importance of environmental protection and cultivate an environmentally responsible culture in the community. We believe that early education and awareness is imperative in changing public perception and modifying behaviour and can result in more acceptance and support towards green initiatives and practices. This, in turn, can help to ensure B Z : =<&> KSenior General Manager, Nusajaya, Encik Mohd Nadzari Haji Bachek.

“This year’s participation from each school was overwhelming and we had a tough time deciding the winner. We hope to see continued support from students, teachers as well as parents for our future campaigns,” he added. Due to the tough competition for the primary school category, DOE has decided to award two champions, SK Nusantara and SK Pendas Laut, without a second placing.
