This' new' portion' of' our'newsletter' is' dedicated'to' our' kids' who' have'reached' developmental'milestones' the' past' few'months.' Basic' skills' like'counting,' color'recognition' and' writing'their' names.' Simple'things' we' take' granted'but' these'kids'never'had'the'chance'to'learn.''!ALEX! (5! yrs.! old)! can! associate! word! pictures,!identify! colors! and! he! knows! how! to! write! his! first!name.! He! loves! to! mimic! and! often! imitates! the!behavior!of!the!people!around!him.!!

!ANNA! MAE! (11! yrs.! old)! can! write! her! name!neatly!and!legibly.!She!knows!her!age!and!the!school!she! goes! to.! She! can! identify! and! read! three! letter!words.!She!can!identify!picture!words.!She!can!write!numbers! 1:40! in! correct!sequence! and! can! also! spell!number!words.!!!ANGEL! (7! yrs.! old)! can! now!write! her! full! name! and!identify!three!letter!words.!!BERNADETTE! (8! yrs.! old)!can! write! her! first! name.! She!can!do!picture:word!association!and! can! identify! initial! sounds.! She! can!identify!number!words!and!colors.!!!FRANCIS! (15! yrs.! old)! has! become! more!industrious! and! responsible.! He! visits! the! garden!every!morning!and!checks!on!the!plants.!!!MICHAEL! (12! yrs.! old)! according! to! the! SPED!teacher,!he!can!be!transferred!to!Grade!I!for!SY!2012:2013.!Michael!can!now!count! from!1!to!100.!He!can!do!simple!addition!and!can! identify!colors.! In!sports,!he!won!first!place!in!the!running!competition.!!

CHRISTIAN! (12!yrs.!old)! can!do!basic!addition!and!can!count!from!1!to!100.!He!has!mastered!color!identification.!!MAYPMAY! (18! yrs.! old)! can! write! her! name! without!supervision.! She! can! count! from! 1! to! 100! and! has!mastered!identification!of!colors.!!!LEVI!(12!yrs.!old)!learned!to!count!from!1!to!100.!He!has!gained!weight!and!looks!very!neat.!He!likes!to!fix!himself.!!NESTO! (12! yrs.! old)! won! the! ACSI! award! as! the! best!player!in!chess.!!!REBECCA! (12! yrs.!old)! is! becoming! more!independent! and!needs! less! supervision!in!her!task.!!!GERALD! (18! yrs.!old)! has! developed!good! leadership!

skills.! He! is! now!very! loving! and! caring! to!his! younger! siblings! and! aspires! to! be! a!seaman.!!JANNA! (13! yrs.! old)! has! become!very! sports!minded.!She! loves! to!play!chess!and! is!getting!better!at!it.!She!is!now!more!expressive!about!her! thoughts! and! feelings! and! is! now! more!sensitive!to!others.!!!

MARVY! (15! yrs.! old)! developed! a! deeper!understanding!of!her!person.!She!values!herself!more!and!has!become!very!confident.!!!BIMBOY!!(5!yrs.!old)!can!now!follow!simple!instructions.!He! likes! to!do! things! for!himself! like!changing!his! clothes!or!brushing!his!teeth.!

Nuria& Balcells! also! known! as!“Nunu”!was!a!teacher! from!a!prestigious!school!in!Barcelona,!Spain!which!she!had!left!because!of!her!strong!desire!to!live!in!the! Philippines.! Now! she! is! a! Kalipay!volunteer! because! of! her! passion! to!educate! young! minds.! ! She! loves! to! be!with!children!and!has!successfully!taught!our! kids! at! Recovered! Treasures!conversational! DAVID! (not! his!real! name)!twelve! years! old!was!rescued!from!the!Bacolod!Plaza!sometime!on!July!2012.! He! was!seen! loitering!around! the! area,!and! begging! for!food.!!

!He!grew!up!in!a!big!family.!The!family’s!only!income!is!from!planting!flower!seeds!and!selling!them!in!the!market.! Since! the! income! was! not! sufficient! to!sustain!his! family’s!needs,!one!of!DAVID ’s! siblings!died!of!severe!malnutrition.!!Because!DAVID’s! father! is!hooked!on!gambling! the!family! cannot! make! ends! meet.! At! times! when!DAVID !and!his!mother!would!come!home!only!with!little! earnings,! his! father! would! get! mad! and!physically!abuse!them.!!DAVID! has! shown! great! improvement! in! his!behavior!and!in!the!way!he!deals!with!people!around!him.! His! smiles! are! genuine! and! his! eyes! light! up!when! he! is! happy.! He! still! remembers! his! mother!and!younger!siblings!but!he!is!determined!to!stay!in!Haven! where! he! will! have! the! opportunity! for! an!education! and! fulfill! his! dream! of! becoming! a!seaman.!!

On! October! 2012!CATHY! (not! her! real!name)! twelve! years!old!was! rescued.! Her!own! grandparents!who!took!care!of!her,!abused!her! for!years.!There! were! even!times! when! she! was!electrocuted! by! her!own! grandmother.!CATHY! endured! all!their!physical!and!verbal!abuse!inflicted!upon!her.!Sadly,!her!mother!had!no!means! to!support!her.!On!the!same!day! that! she! ran! away,! she! was! rescued! by! a! Kalipay!social!worker.!!!It! has!been!5!months! since!CATHY!was! rescued.! She! is!now!happy!and!at!peace.!She! is! fond!of!singing,! joins! in!almost! all! home! activities! and! loves! to! fix! herself.! She!now!has!a!lot!of!friends!and!she!has!started!to!trust!the!people!around!her.!!
