Thank you for visiting Motoman’s exhibit at IMTS 2006 and for taking the opportunity to see many of the ways that Motoman delivers innovative robotic automation solutions to a wide range of industries. Our booth showcased just a few of the ways that Motoman robots can help you reduce product costs while increasing throughput, flexibility and quality. From the company’s inception in 1989, to our most recent innovations – revolutionary 7-axis IA20 and 13-axis dual-arm DA20 robots exhibited at IMTS – Motoman has focused on delivering total customer satisfaction as well as the highest level of reliability, usability and performance in the robotic automation industry. In keeping with Motoman’s “Quantum Leap in Robot Technology” theme, our exhibit showcased a diverse range of applications, including several machine tending solutions; “jigless” assembly and welding; vision-guided bin-picking; laser seam-tracking; and RoboBar. In other booths at IMTS, Motoman robots performed abrasive waterjet cutting and complex inspection of gear assemblies. We invite you to visit our website at www.motoman.com to see the more than 175 robot models we offer and how our company can enhance your return on investment in robotic automation.

Machine Tending with MotoRail 7 Floorspace-saving pre-engineered MotoRail 7 solutions use six-axis robot(s) invert-mounted from a servo-controlled overhead rail (lengths from 4-32 m) to provide improved access to multiple stations for a variety of applications. MotoRail 7 features linear traverse speed of 2.5 m per second and unmatched ±0.15 mm total repeatability of both the track and robot. It is also available in a multiple-robot configuration that provides increased throughput. MotoRail 7 can be used for identical or progressive operations at multiple machining cells.
Jigless Assembly and Welding Revolutionary new 13-axis dual-arm DA20 robot (20 kg payload per arm) provides high-speed motion, coupled with “human-like” flexibility of motion, making it ideally suited for tasks that previously could only be performed by people. Unique, actuator-driven design of the
new IA20 robot (20 kg payload) enables amazing freedom of movement, coupled with the ability to maneuver in very tight
areas previously inaccessible to robots. The IA20 can be positioned between machines or out of the normal working area (floor-, ceiling-, wall-, incline- or machine-mounted). This cell also featured the MH450 positioner drive assembly configured as a turntable and the new HyperFeed II wire feeder/interface
integrated with a Miller XMT welding power source for fast arc starts/stops.
Productivity Platforms® Highly flexible, prefabricated robotic machine tending cells are designed to link a high-performance Motoman robot, plus one, two or three major machine tools and a variety of secondary process devices into a single, lean production unit. Tool changers and provisions for multiple end-of-arm tools are standard to facilitate multi-operation processing of single parts, or multi-part processing in the same cell. Inbound and outbound part orientation and storage conveyors support long periods of unattended production.

776655 G-Code Converter EG and Points Importer EG G-Code Converter EG PC-based software easily and quickly converts standard G-Code programs used by CNC machine tools, including I/O and other non-motion commands, into robot programs that are ready to run. Points Importer EG software uses X-Y-Z path data derived from actual CAD files (provided in a specific XML file format via a template) to create robot programs, which can then be used in computer simulations or downloaded to the robot controller and executed. The operator station provides an advanced, PC-based human machine interface (MotoHMI) for robot systems and PLCs.

3D Vision-Guided Bin Picking Motoman’s 3D machine vision guidance product combines industry-leading robot performance with the powerful and highly flexible RELIABOT® 3D vision package from Shafi Inc. and the In-Sight®, CheckPoint®, or MVS 8100™ series products from Cognex. This technology provides significant cost savings by eliminating the need for custom dunnage trays or locating devices to repeatably position parts.
ArcWorld V-1200 Motoman’s pre-engineered ArcWorld V-1000 cell features one
overhead-mounted six-axis EA1400TN “Expert Arc” welding robot. The ArcWorld V-1200 delivers HyperProductivity® with two overhead-mounted EA1400TN robots controlled by a
single NX100 controller to provide programming simplicity. Overhead mounting the robots improves access to the work piece(s) and reduces
floorspace requirements by up to 40 percent over a similar cell with floor-mounted robots. It also includes a Motoman MR-300 rotary positioner that indexes 180-degrees in just four seconds and handles a payload of up to 300 kg (661.5 lbs) per side.
Multi-Station Machine Tending New dual-arm DA20 robot demonstrated its “human-like” flexibility by loading parts into two Haas lathes. The DA20 robot has a 20 kg payload per arm, a 756 mm reach per arm (from centerline of base rotation to tool mounting surface), and a repeatability of ±0.1 mm. The robot arms can work together to double the payload or accomplish intricate tasks. Both arms also can perform tasks independently. The DA20 robot can also transfer a part from one of its arms to the other with no need to set the part down temporarily. It also provides “jigless” operation, allowing one robot arm to hold the part while the other performs the required process(es).

MotoEye LT Laser Seam-Tracking/ MH1500-450TR Part Positioner New high-speed laser seam-tracking software, integrated with a 3D laser-based camera, enables Motoman robots to precisely track thin-gage (0.5 mm) weld joints at high speeds, even while the parts are turning on a coordinated positioner. If a joint gap is detected, MotoEye LT has adaptive capability to vary the weld conditions, resulting in precise, highly accurate welds and better quality parts. New MH1500-450TR part positioner with two headstock modules and AC servo-controlled tilt/rotate provides economical, highly flexible part positioning.
RoboBar HP (High-Production) Designed for use in casinos and other high-volume venues, RoboBar HP uses a dual-arm DA9IC robot to expertly pour mixed
drinks and dispense beer and wine ordered using a touch-screen HMI. RoboBar is not only fast, it mixes each drink perfectly every time, eliminating lost revenues due to
spillage and overpours. RoboBar E (Entertainment) and RoboBar NA (Non-Alcohol) models are also available.
PC-Based Software Motoman offers a wide variety of PC-based software designed to maximize the productivity of robotic automation solutions, including tools for simulation, calibration, communications, expert maintenance, and software-related application support.
Customers were able to get hands-on experience with the actual software products, providing a better understanding of how each
one is actually used for a particular application.
