Have you met our new Communications Specialist?
South Georgia Excels with Degree WorksImplementation success in midst of consolidation The University System of Georgia
is nearing the completion of a
system wide project to implement
Degree Works. The implementa-
tion has been organized over an
eighteen month period by way of
individual cohorts, and the last
cohort is slated to have a soft roll
out of Degree Works in August
2013. One of the institutions par-
ticipating in this cohort is South
Georgia State.
While all of the institutions have done a
great job, South Georgia State College
deserves special recognition because
they are not only implementing Degree
Works but are also in the midst of
forming a new consolidated institution.
Randy Braswell and Ame Wilkerson
demonstrated an unbelievable knowl-
edge of their new “Banner C,” especially
regarding the effect of the merged data
on Degree Works. Specifically, both
Randy and Ame understood that much
problem-solving and trouble-shooting
will be required during their Degree
Works implementation, as they face
circumstances the other members of
the cohort do not. Julie Anderson and
Suzie Brown stayed in the background,
setting up and maintaining Banner inte-
grations, configurations, and localiza-
tions as training and implementation
progressed. Their work ethic and ability
to “roll with the punches” merits special
recognition! This team knows the true
meaning of “above and beyond the call
of duty.”
Way to go South Georgia State College!
We’re excited to introduce Tommy McGahee to the GeorgiaBEST team as a Communications Specialist. His primary role will be supporting the GeorgiaBEST team with internal and exter-nal communications, as well as Banner and Georgia Enhancements technical documentation.
Tommy graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors in Journalism, and empha-ses in photojournalism and New Media. This is his first position in the public sector, with pre-vious stints as a web developer at Turner Broadcasting and as an assistant online editor at the Athens Banner-Herald.
Join the GeorgiaBEST TeamDo you have mad development
skills? The GeorgiaBEST

join our team! As a Systems
Analyst 2, you will use your
knowledge of available
hardware and software
resources to devise technical
specifications for computer
programs based on functional
specifications provided by infor-
mation analysts. Working alone
or with the assistance of other
system analysts, you will also
design, code, document, test,
and debug the computer pro-
grams that result from the tech-
nical specification process.
You will initially program in Pro
C, Oracle Forms, Self service
Banner (using WebTailor and
Oracle Packages) and PL/SQL.
In addition, there will be
opportunities to develop in the
Banner XE environment using
Groovy/Grails as well as to
explore mobile development.

Last fall, many of you participated in one of our most exten-
sive surveys that asked specific questions about your use of
the Georgia enhancements. Your input was extremely valu-
able and we appreciate everyone who participated.
One of the goals of that effort was to identify Georgia enhance-
ments that are no longer needed. Serving your needs is our
priority, and by eliminating maintenance for obsolete items we
can free resources to work on new and improved solutions to
enhance your Banner experience.
Over the next several months, we will be sharing the details
of our efforts to eliminate obsolete Georgia enhancements.
These announcements will include enhancements that are
no longer needed due to policy changes, enhancements that
have been added to baseline software and are no longer
needed, and enhancements that were authorized by external
agencies and are no longer required.
Please note that we will not remove any modifications that are
used ubiquitously by our campuses. We will communicate
well in advance before decommissioning any functionality,
and will offer training as needed to ensure a smooth transition
(example: Using baseline functionality instead of a Georgia
Enhancement).

Thank you again for helping us to identify and prioritize which
Georgia enhancements add the most value to you - our
