MATTERS A PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF WAXAHACHIE SUMMER 2017 Waxahachie A Message From The Mayor Have you heard the phrase “It just gets better all the time”? Well, that is exactly how I feel about all of the positive developments that are taking place in our community. Everywhere you turn, improvements are being made. Most of our City parks have been dramatically improved by adding new playground equipment, trails, pavilions, basketball courts, parking and more. A new splash pad was just completed in time for the hot summer months. The new splash pad is located at George Brown Plaza, which is accessible from Jackson Street, and also the foot bridge next to College Street Pub. Another splash pad is under construction in the Garden Valley Subdivision and will be completed soon. We have a growing, young population, and these new amenities are an important part of providing a great quality of life to our residents. We also have many street projects underway. While we do understand that this construction is a temporary inconvenience, it is necessary to ensure that our infrastructure is maintained and in place to serve generations to come. In addition to the ongoing reconstruction of Marvin Avenue, Rogers Street in the downtown area is also being reconstructed from Franklin Street to South College. Projects that will begin soon are Indian Trace, Overhill/Olive/Greenbrier Streets, Stadium Drive, Alexander Drive, and Cynisca Street. Another very exciting project is the construction of the new Waxahachie High School. It is amazing to watch how quickly the walls have come up, which makes visible the magnitude of this facility. I am very proud that our students will have the opportunity to learn and grow in such a wonderful facility. We also have many great community events coming up. The 20th Annual Crape Myrtle Festival will take place on July 3-4. There will be a concert and fireworks at the Waxahachie Sports Complex on July 3, and the parade Downtown on the morning of July 4. We also have the Downtown Farmers Market in full swing every Saturday from 8am-1pm at 410 S. Rogers. If it seems like there is something to do every weekend, there just about is! For a full calendar of events, go to the Convention and Visitors Bureau Website at www.waxahachiecvb.com. Again, I am excited and proud to serve as Mayor of this great town during these exciting times. I hope that each of you has a safe and fun summer.
