from each of these men about their path. I’m excited to have these men join us in service, and I believe you will be too. BRIGHT NIGHTYou heard me mention it last Sunday – now’s your chance to sign up to participate! On October 30, we’re providing an event at the campuses of both Lamar Elementary and Sam Houston College Preparatory Academy. We need your help to make these happen! Our vision is to serve people, love their children and share the Gospel when and where we can. We want to open doors for later conversations and connections to serve people in the future. If you signed up to help with last year’s event, it’s likely you’ve already heard from us about your willingness to serve. If you’d like to serve, contact our Minister to Children Sarah Arrambide ([email protected]) or our Minister to Preschoolers Amy Brand ([email protected]) to get connected! PRESCHOOL HALLWAYAre you a member of FBC of at least 6 months looking for a place where the Lord can use you RIGHT NOW? We need help managing our preschool hallway during our worship hours. It’s a great problem to have! It means there are families coming to worship and bringing their children too! If you’d like to help us, please contact Amy Brand at [email protected]. Your servant,Darin

Dear First Family,Grace and Peace today! My prayer for you today is that you’ll know God’s power in your life this week! Spend time in 1 Thessalonians 5 and Philippians 4 this week to find both power and peace.CHANGEThe days are growing shorter and the nights longer. God’s rhythmical pattern of season is a joy and a beauty, isn’t it? And yet, change isn’t much fun. I was just getting used to being hot all day every day! What I’ve learned about seasons is the ones I like aren’t as long as I want. The ones I don’t like or want seem like they’ll never end. But they all do end because that’s how God designed things--for seasons--that’s what Ecclesiastes 3 says. God has made a season for everything. Thus, as the summer gives way to fall, may we be reminded of God’s amazing plans and God’s unchanging kindness to us as well as the power of His presence among us. My prayer for us is that this season will be one where we seek the God of all grace. FOOTPRINTS THIS SUNDAY NIGHTOur Minister of Missions, Bryan Pinson, and his lovely wife, Julie are our guests this Sunday night at 5 in the Fellowship Hall. Most of us know Bryan – this is his second “tour of duty” with us. They were here 15 years ago when they were still newlyweds! A lot has changed in their round-trip journey, some good, some challenging, some difficult, but God’s grace has sustained them through it all. Join us Sunday night at 5PM for what I believe will be a conversation to bless all of us. CHURCH CONFERENCERight before we begin our talk with Bryan and Julie, we’ll have our monthly church conference. DEACON ORDINATION, OCTOBER 6Sunday night, October 6 at 5PM, we’ll ordain our friend Flo Akintunji as a deacon at FBC! Furthermore, we welcome four previously ordained deacons into the deacon ministry here at FBC. In no particular order, they are Jody Sneed, Chad Sullivan, Adam Vourazeris and Ricky Cox. In the service, you’ll hear testimonies

Midland Interfaith H o s p i t a l i t y Network (MIHN) is a partnership of congregations

within our community who help families facing homelessness. MIHN uses existing community resources to provide comprehensive services to families experiencing homelessness. This unique community response offers an opportunity for volunteers from local church congregations to be on the front line of Midland’s effort to reduce homelessness while transforming the lives of families in need. FBC is one of 15 churches that help with this ministry. The next host week will be Sunday, November 3-Sunday, November 10 in the Sonshine House. We need volunteers to help with food and to stay overnight during the week we host. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Kim Collier at [email protected].
