SIDEWALK ART

Advanced Placement U.S. History students had an opportunity to see the musical Hamilton thanks to their teacher Jennifer Wright. The trip was made possible by a grant provided by Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and funded by the Rockefeller Founda-tion. Students paid $10 to attend, but were required to complete a project that mirrored the steps Lin Manuel Miranda took when writing the musical. Students had to pick an event or person from the Revolutionary Pe-riod in US History, find primary sources, and then write a poem, song, monologue, rap, etc. Stu-dents also performed those pro-jects within the classroom, and a few chosen projects were per-formed that day at ASU Gam-mage.

ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16, ADVANCED

ART, ART 3-4, AND AP ART COMPLETED

ANNUAL SIDEWALK CHALK DRAWINGS.

Preparing All Moon Valley Students for Higher Education During your student’s four years of high school, they experience days that are packed with activities, friends and fun; but we must remember the number one goal for all our high school students: pre-paring students for higher education. We are proud to announce that Moon Valley received a preliminary school letter grade of A! One of the many reasons we received an A is our focus on college and career readiness. Why is college-readiness so important? A recent study shows that

by 2020, 75% of jobs will require at least a two-year degree or higher. That compares to just 62% of jobs requiring higher education in 2009. Also, a college degree makes a big difference for lifetime earning potential. Those with only a high school diploma earn about $1.2 million over their working lifetime. But those with a Bachelor’s degree earn almost twice that – about $2.1 million. Here are some important things for all students to remember as they work toward their higher-education goals: Your high school transcript sticks with you for life. All students should take the PSAT during both sophomore and junior year and the

Pre-ACT sophomore year as a way to prepare and practice for the ACT, which is taken, for free, during junior year.

Visit the College & Career Center inside the front office or call 623-915-8055. Contact your student’s counselor with any questions on scholarships, institutions,

higher education or guidance. In addition, here are some upcoming dates to help your student reach their college goals: On March 14, freshmen will have the opportunity to take the PSAT10 and sophomores can take the pre-ACT. Please visit the student bookstore for more details or contact your student’s guidance counselor. On March 28, all students will have the opportunity to get ready for upcoming state and national testing. On this day, ALL of our students will be learning test-taking techniques to get them ready for the challenges of high-stakes testing. By learning these skills, our students will have the opportunity to excel on college-entry exams as well as the AzMERIT and AIMS exams. On April 4, all of our junior students will be taking the ACT exam for free. This amazing opportunity will help your students get accustomed to national exams so they can be successful. By doing well on college-entry exams, students can earn scholarships to-ward higher education. For more information on free ACT testing at Moon Valley, please call the Counseling Office at 623-915-8002. Throughout the year, Moon Valley has a college club that meets, called UNI101. Every first Wednesday of the month, students meet with club advisers to talk about college. Topics include things such as important exams needed for college entrance, options in higher education, applying for college and setting goals throughout high school. All stu-dents are encouraged to join UNI101. Find out more information by contacting your stu-dent’s counselor. Moon Valley prides itself on a vision that all students will go on to higher education. We will continue to promote our vision of helping every student to be college and career ready!

Students spent the en-tire day sketching, drawing, and coloring in artwork of their own creation. Some students even created projects that day with no reference. Projects are available for viewing outside of the administration building.
