What is an IT Capstone Project?• Capstone Projects are intended to be intensive, active learning
projects, requiring significant effort in the planning and implementation, as well as preparation of a substantial final written work product.– http://www.law.duke.edu/curriculum/capstone/procedure
• Capstone Project is a large-scale academic project. Once your topic is selected, you should do some research on the subject matter. While you may already have an opinion on your topic and an idea about which side of the argument you want to take, you need to ensure that your proposal is well supported.– http://info.aspen.edu/index.php?

What is an IT Capstone Project?
• We are supposed to propose a– Product– Or a Service– That has not been invented or available in the
market

4
What is an IT Capstone Project?
– It should encapsulate everything we have learned in the past four years
– In our case:• SDLC• Implementation Plan• Project Management• Software development phases

5
What our IT Capstone Project is all about?
• Transparent - see through• Handheld - portable• Productivity – office applications• Computing Device with - computer• Smart Visual Recognition – recognize objects
and the environment through scanning
6
What our IT Capstone Project is all about?
• Computer– Display– Input and Output Device– Run applications– Aid in Daily Tasks– Solve Problems
7
What our IT Capstone Project is all about?
• Transparent Handheld Productivity Computing Device with Smart Visual Recognition– It is a concept product– Combines present day and emerging technologies– It is a transparent handheld computer– It can scan objects, body and places– Basically it will look like a flat piece of tempered
scratch-proof glass card.

Scope
• We don’t intend to create the product• We don’t intend to develop the applications• We will present the most comprehensive
documentation, functional requirements and implementation plan we can do
• We will do product demonstrations through– Flash animations– Illustrations
10
Limitations
• When all systems are given the go signal, the types of software that will be developed will only be limited to the following:
– Smart mapping or GPS system– Product scanning– Body Health scanning
• Skin problems• Tongue health• Eye health
– Secured data sharing and storage– 3D modeling– Handwriting to text– Augmented Reality
11
General Categories of the functionalities
1. Tracking2. Scanning3. Data streaming4. Task support5. Place Tagging

Why do this?
• There are a lot of limitations that existing computers have.– Existing computers needed extra care since misusing it
could lead to damage. Exposure to magnets or harsh natural elements like water, sunlight or fire could also cause it to break down.
– Manufacturing existing computers can be very costly because of the intricacy of the processes and assembly of each internal component. The cost of production and the cost of materials are expensive like plastics and metals.

13
Why do this?
• There are a lot of limitations that existing computers have.– These devices when obsolete or unusable make
up a huge part of the wastelands and are non-biodegradable.
– What is also scaring us is the fact that the parts contain harmful substances that could potentially endanger the lives of those who gain contact with it or the environment itself.
14
Why do this?
• There are a lot of limitations that existing computers have.– Another limitation that existing types of computers
have is the limited display screen size. You are only limited to the size set by the manufacturers.
– Existing computers are not built to harness the ability to run augmented reality applications. Augmented reality is an existing technology that allows object recognition by scanning the environment with a computer.
15
Why do this?
• There are a lot of limitations that existing computers have.– First is, we have to wait for a couple of minutes for
the computer or biometric device to start up.– We also have to change the batteries or have the
device hooked up to a power outlet to work.
16
Why do this?
• There are a lot of limitations that existing computers have.– The input of data is also difficult since we have to
key in every letter or we need to have a mouse or track pad to move the pointer.
– Some of the existing computers are too big and fragile to be carried around.
17
How will a transparent handheld device solve all those problems?
• One is, it’s very portable and easy to use• The manufacturing cost is low and the glass to
be used is highly recyclable much like Corning Gorilla Glass.
• Our device will also be able to work like a tablet PC that responds to normal hand and finger gestures and handwriting.

18
How will a transparent handheld device solve all those problems?
• It is also able to run Augmented Reality applications in industries we are focusing on: retail, health and manufacturing.
19
How will a transparent handheld device solve all those problems?
• For retail, the device could be used to gain relevant marketing or product information after scanning.
20
How will a transparent handheld device solve all those problems?
• For health, you could use it to scan body parts such as the eyes and gain health information.
21
How will a transparent handheld device solve all those problems?
• For manufacturing, you can use the device to determine the malfunctioning part of the machine or use it to create 3D models from the objects you scan.
22
How will that be possible?
• We aim to integrate existing technologies such as – GPS systems– Augmented Reality– biometric scanning– Charting tools– maps creation– handwriting to text software– maps creation and – scanning software
