A Plus Certification and it's Significance in IT

The A Plus, or A+ certification has been a highly desired cert in the IT industry for many years now and it's no wonder why. The company which manages this certification, CompTIA, has done a good job keeping it relevant despite the rapidly changing environment. This certification was developed to help information technology professionals show that they are able to effectively work on both the hardware side of technology. This means doing thins like replacing a hard drive, upgrading memory or even fixing a broken printer. And also the software side meaning they can configure the different components, install different types of software and work well in the latest operating systems.

The A+ certification has many advantages to it which make it so popular among IT professionals at all levels. The first thing people like about it is the fact that it is not associated with any specific vendor. For example, the MCSE is a Microsoft certification which, of course, tests you on knowledge of a variety of Microsoft soft-wares. The CCNA is a Cisco certification and it tests you on Cisco knowledge. The A plus certification, however, is vendor neutral. It will prove you are able to work on a wide range of today's most popular hardware and software configurations.

Many people get their A Plus certification first because it is a great foundation to build on. It won't prove you have in depth knowledge of any specific area but rather that you have a good foundational understanding of the information technology industry. This certification will get you qualified for working in a wide variety of entry level jobs such as help desks, computer repair jobs and even entry network administrators. It effectively tells a company who is looking to hire you that you are not only able to learn about technology, but also that you've proven you understand the basics of it.

This certification requires that you take and pass two exams, the CompTIA A+ Essentials and the CompTIA A+ Practical Application exam. These can take up to 90 minutes each and have 100 questions in each one. Most people who have taken these exams have found that while they are challenging, the material is not overly difficult which makes this an excellent exam to begin with. Even some high schools today are offering a class which teaches the information required for this certification so the students can graduate with this valuable certification.

Many companies will pay for their staff to learn about this subject and even pay for the exam because they know it will help their employees gain very valuable knowledge. This certification helps individuals learn about broader view of the IT industry which can make them much more effective in their jobs. If, for example, an individual is a Unix administrator they will still have to interact with other teams in the IT department who work on other areas of computers. If they take the time to complete the A Plus certification they will have a better understanding of what other people do on a daily basis which can help them interact more effectively.
