We appreciate your interest in our 2017 Female Fiesta Sale. This is our 5th Annual Female sale and we believe we have the best lineup ever. Our event will again be held at the Badger Creek Ranch (previously Eby Ranch) facility a few miles north of Emporia, Kansas. We will be offering Fall and Spring Calving females.

We have described each animal to the best of our knowledge, so that buyers have the best information they can about the females. We include the good, and the bad where applicable and known. All animals in the sale have genomically enhanced EPDs to increase the accu-racy of their genetic profile, and all are sire and dam verified to the greatest extent possible. We always want buyers to get home with the genetics they intended to purchase. We believe in utilizing the best technology available to help us raise the best cattle we can raise. In addition we have carcass scan information on all of the fall open females.

We will have 60 ET heifer calves coming into our program next fall, in addition to our regular calf crop. This is a big group for us. As a result we are selling some Fall females that we would sure like to keep. Females calving later in the season and bigger cows are again part of our criteria for which cows get in the sale. We are also offering a nice set of Donor cows that have been valuable assets to our program.

We purchased the Genesis A31 bull as the high seller in the C-Bar 2014 sale as a yearling and agreed that Steve Meier should continue to campaign the bull. Genesis had a stellar show career claiming Grand Champion bull at the Northern International Livestock Exposition (NILE) and then becoming the Reserve Grand Champion bull in 2016 at the NWSS in Denver. Genesis bred his first cows at our place in the winter of 2016 and we have a few of his progeny offered in the sale. Unfortunately, we lost Genesis this summer to a leg injury, but are fortunate to have a good bank of his semen stored up. Obviously, Genesis was a phenotypically pleasing bull, but he also is a bull with tremendous power, as reflected in his EPDs. The WW of 83 and YW of 133 are both top 1 percentile. So, now you have pretty and power in the same package. We are confident you will like his progeny.

Last fall we were the successful purchaser of ¼ semen interest and walking rights to the Brown Pacesetter Y7170 sire that is now at Select Sires. He is a proven bull that was offered for sale through the Broseco dispersal sale. He is a Nebula P707 son out of a top Brown Revela-tion P7021 cow that goes back to the famous Abigrace L7730 cow. We are not sure when we will get Pacesetter home, as his semen has been selling briskly and he is still at the stud farm. We have included a few of his daughters in the sale to give you an idea of what this top sire can do. He is a top 1% Herdbuilder and top 2% Gridmaster with sound structure and very good feet. You will surely hear more about him in the future.

We continue to be blessed to own Red Angus cattle, as they are the best genetics in the industry, and the high demand for Red Angus females is reflective of the quality of the breed. Since 2011 the registry of Red Angus cattle has doubled. That is not happening with any other major breed. In our program we breed for balance, with an eye on furthering the premier quality of the breed. We are blessed with the assistance of our herdsmen, Adam Cope and Leroy Parks. Without these gentlemen we would be lost. Our granddaughters, Natalie and Julia, continue to provide a sparkle in our eyes and they “just love Papa’s cows”.

Performance observations collected at the ranch are impacted by the animal’s ge-netics, which can include hundreds or thousands of genes. Recent advancements in DNA technology have now allowed for the identification of a portion of genes that have a significant favorable or unfavorable impact on a particular trait.

50K is the tool that observes 50,000 locations on the animal’s genome and iden-tifies which genes that animal possesses and their impact on various traits. The result: additional informative data available for EPD calculations.

Genetic predictions will always be based on data; however, the means in which we collect data has and will likely continue to evolve. Previously, the Red Angus Association of America relied solely on phenotypic observations such as weaning weights and ultrasound data to calculate EPDs. The delivery of 50K technology provides additional data points that can be applied to an animal’s EPD calcula-tions. Data obtained from a 50K test can be as informative as a bull’s first calf crop or a cow’s lifetime production record, thus, providing stakeholders with a tool to vastly increase accuracy of an animal’s EPDs.

The Power of 50KAccuracyEPDs predict an animal’s true genetic merit, which can be passed on to offspring. As the amount of data included in an animal’s EPD calculation increases, ranchers can have more confidence that the EPD correctly identifies the animal’s true genet-ic merit. This is communicated to stakeholders in the form of “Accuracy,” which is printed in conjunction with each EPD and ranges from 0 to 99. Increased Data = Increased Accuracy = Increased Reliability

The power of 50K is the ability to collect additional genetic prediction data before an animal is selected to enter or exit the herd. Thus, allowing producers to achieve their genetic goals at a faster rate, as the genetic predictions used in selection decisions are of higher accuracy.

Rhodes Red Angus is offering 5 top donor cows to progressive Red Angus operations wanting to give a boost to their programs. These are unique and special females that will enhance the genetics of most herds. All donors have 50K genomically enhanced EPDs and are proven cows. Full possession and 100% ownership will transfer. If the buyer wants to continue to flush a donor cow, we will transport the cow back to the ET facility (either Sun Valley in Salina, KS or Cross Country in Westmoreland, KS) at no cost. Brown Ms Conquest A7067 came out of the October 2013, R A Brown Ranch dispersal as a heifer calf. A7067 is out of Conquest 4405P and the famous Abigrace L7730 cow that has sold over $2 million in progeny. It is safe to say that Abigrace L7730 is the highest valued cow in the Red Angus breed. A full sister to A7067 was the “Lead off” and 2nd high selling female in the Brown dispersal sale and went to DAMAR for $31,000. She is now owned by Fair Acres Stock Farms in Minnesota. In the Brown dispersal sale other full sisters went to Howard Red Angus in Oklahoma for $16,000, Williams Ranch in Oklahoma for $13,000. and C-Bar Ranch and R J Farms in Kansas and Boot Jack Cattle Company in Montana for $12,000.

In 2016 MS Conquest was flushed 3 times and froze 20 embryos for an average of 6.67 embryos with a high of 10 and a low of 2. We have three A7067 daughters coming into the herd, two ET heifer calves born this fall, and 16 embryos in our tank, of which most are female-sexed. We plan to get most of these embryos in this fall. As you can see the MS Conquest genes will be well represented in our herd.

Ms Conquest is ready to go to the ET facility. She sells with her bull calf, which was born on 9/17/17, and is out of Rhodes Conquest 118A. This calf is a line bred Conquest calf with Abigrace L7730 and a very nice Packer/Mulberry cow as the other grand-parents. Registration #3768493.

Sellers are reserving one flush to be accomplished in 2018 at buyer’s convenience, with a minimum of 6 freezable embryos. Seller will pay all expenses of the flush. Here is a unique opportunity to acquire an outstanding, young, and proven Abigrace L7730 direct daughter. She can move any Red Angus or Simmental herd forward with her genetics and performance. Brown Ms Big Sky U7829 was purchased out of the October 2013 R A Brown dispersal sale. On that same day 5 of her ET daughters sold for an average of $7250 with the high seller going for $11,000. U7829 is a Big Sky R9 daughter out of a Mytty In Focus dam. Mytty In Focus was heavily used in the Angus breed and known for his ability to make top-notch daughters. He may still have the most daughters of any sire in the Angus breed. His sons have also made big impacts in the Angus breed with Ten X being a prime example. Together with the success of the Big Sky R9 as a cow-maker, the U7829 cow is uniquely positioned from a genetics standpoint.

Ms Big Sky is a big flusher with 153 embryos produced in 10 flushes for an average of 15.3 per flush. Her high is 29 and low is 1. She has far out-produced our ability to use her embryos. We have 3 daughters in the herd and 9 daughters born in 2017 that will come into our herd. And, we still have over 50 embryos in the tank. As such, we have sold embryos and heifer calves with both being well received by buyers. While we hate to see her go, we have all the embryos we will ever need.

As of 9-10-17 Ms Big Sky had 47 calves on her record and that number will continue to grow. Henderson Red Angus in Texas has a daughter in the donor pen. She was called as bred to Genesis A31 (1628423) for a calf around 3-28-18. If the calf is later it could be out of Loosli Right Kind166 (1432529) due to the injury to the Genesis bull.

Ms Big Sky is a high impact female and one that can rapidly move a program forward.

The Donors

Sierra was also a partnership cow we had with Solution Genetics that we now own. She is a direct daughter of the famous Canadian cow-maker Red Towaw Indeed 104H. On the dam side she is out of the Six Mile Sierra 257P cow that is the dam of Sakic 832S and many other top producing progeny. Sakic was a GENEX sire and highly used with 3745 calves on his record in the US and another 1500 in Canada. Six Mile Red Angus in Canada is flushing a younger sister to 114Y and Smoky Y Red Angus of Kansas bought an older sister donor cow at the Wildcat dispersal for $18,500 and she now is in their donor pen.

Sierra 114Y has progeny working in several top Red Angus programs. She is a very at-tractive cow that has a good udder and pleasant temperament. We flushed her twice in 2017. In the first flush she had 17 unfertilized embryos and none frozen. We think that was primarily a semen problem. On the second collection she froze 10 embryos. She was previously flushed in Iowa 2 times producing 8 embryos.

Sierra 114Y represents a unique and special genetic package. We believe she will be a strong asset to the fortunate purchaser. She is open and ready to breed or she could return to the ET facility to be flushed. Her last flush was on 8-30-17

Tilly X02 is a cow we partnered on with Solution Genetics and now own 100%. She is an Oles’s Oscar daughter out of the prestigious Tilly R542 donor cow for C-Bar Ranch and later at Rambo Cattle Company, both in Kansas. Her 2015 heifer calf was a highlight of our 2016 sale going to Denny Halpain in Oklahoma.

We flushed X02 in 2017 and received 37 embryos in 3 flushes for an average of 12.3 per flush. Her high was 16 and low was 9. She was previously flushed in Iowa 5 times producing 29 embryos. Tilly is a big, dark red cow that is very impressive phe-notypically. She has the pedigree and performance to be a very positive contributor to a top Red Angus program. Tilly is open and ready to breed or she could be returned to the ET facility. She was last flushed on 8-4-17.

The Donors

Majestic Windsong A322 came to us as a heifer from the Moxley family of Majestic Meadows in Maryland. She is a direct daughter of the famous BJR Windsong 2269 cow. Her sire is the stylish 3 Aces Sideways bull that is the sire of Champions and many high selling progeny.

We got off to a bit of a rough start with this female as we found out she was bred (conceived at about 7 months) when we went to pelvic measure her. The calf was aborted, and she still calved in the fall of 2015 as a 2 year old. She did an outstand-ing job with her 2015 bull calf which is now owned by Ray Landon of Noel, MO. She lost her 2016 bull calf to a broken leg. We flushed her 3 times in 2017 and she pro-ducing 29 embryos for an average of 9.67 embryos per flush. She was very consistent with a high of 11 and a low of 8.

We can’t remember the last opportunity to purchase a direct daughter of the Windsong 2269 cow, but we know they do not come along often. Even the Windsong grand-daughters and great-grand daughters are highly sought after. Windsong A322 is a female that can change a program overnight. Windsong A322 is open and was last flushed on 8-11-17. She is ready to breed now, or could be flushed again.

11NOVEMBER 10, 2017

We had some challenges in coming up with some spring cows for the sale as we are not wanting to significantly expand our spring herd, but we do want to make some room for our newest genetics.

On 5-16-17 these cows were given the following: Cattlemaster 4VL5; Alpha7MB; MultiMin; Autogeneous Pinkeye; Anaplasmosis booster; Long-range Dewormer; and 2 fly tags for the summer. On 8-30-17 they received Alpha 7MB and MultiMin and were poured with Cydectin.

The Spring cows were AI bred on 5-26-17. Clean-up bulls were turned in on 5-27-17 and came out on 7-26-17. Because we DNA all calves we turn bulls in right after AI work is completed. For this reason we recommend buyers parentage verify calves born close to the AI date or close to the date when we changed bulls in the pasture due to a leg injury to the Genesis A31 bull.

Bieber Lass 500A is a Rollin Deep Y118 daughter out of a Hobo 79E cow. This is a very attractive cow that has a good udder and disposition. She weighed 1588# on 8-30-17 after weaning a big Genesis A31 son that sure looks to be an exciting herd bull prospect. Her 2015 bull calf was purchased by Brenda Jordan. This is a front pasture kind of cow and one to build a program around. She was called as bred to the AI sire which is HXC Declaration 5504C (3494198). Her due date is 3-4-18. Declaration 5504C is a young sire at Genex that is turning some heads with his progeny and very strong set of EPDs. We have a few calves out of him and they are impressive, even at a young age. Mimi has 94 progeny at this time and that number will surely continue to increase. Mimi W085 sold to Polzin Cattle in Minneso-ta in the DAMAR dispersal. Mimi Z393 is a grand-daughter of the Tarmily N512 cow and out of highly respected C-Bar Anticipation 101W sire. In summary, Mimi Z393 has a world-class pedigree. With grand-parents of Abigrace L7730, Mulberry 26P, Tarmily N512, and Ole’s Oscar it is hard to see how her pedigree could be much stron-ger. Z393 has been a hard luck cow as she lost her 2015 calf a few days after it was born and was open last year. Her 2014 heifer calf is working in the Route 9 program for Bill Embry in Illinois. We hate to see this young cow go, but she is calving outside our window. She came to us as a heifer from Brylor Ranch. She calved to the AI bull on her first two calves and then was open due to a bull problem. Her 2015 heifer was purchased by Toby Culbertson of Copper Canyon Ranch in Illinois and was one of the sale highlights. She raised a very strong bull calf in 2016 that got injured while on gain test. She is carrying some extra flesh but is expected to be a 1400-1500# cow. She has a good udder and disposition. She was not AI bred and was called to calve around 4-5-18. Nikita is a big cow that is calm, wide, deep and very attractive. She is dual registered with the Canadian Angus Association. She has raised two very good calves for us. All heifers are calf-hood vaccinated for Brucellosis and tested as PI negative. On 3-3-2017 the heifers received Vista 3VL5; Alpha7MB; MultiMin; Autogeneous Pinkeye; Sabor pour-on and Valbazon. On 4-18-2017 they received Autogeneous Pinkeye; MultiMin; Anaplasmosis booster; Long-Range Dewormer and two fly tags for the summer. On 8-30-17 they were vaccinated with Alpha 7MB and MultiMin, and poured with Cydectin.

The AI date on all heifers was 4-27-2017. The AI sire and the pregnancy check results are discussed in the write-up on each cow. The pregnancy check was done by ultrasound on 8-30-2017. The Natural service clean-up sires went in on 4-28-17 and came out on 7-26-17. Because we DNA all calves we turn bulls in right after AI is done. We purchased the walking rights and 25% semen interest in Pacesetter a year ago at the Broseco dispersal. Lilly is a dark red daughter of the Genesis A31 sire that we bought from C-Bar Ranch as a yearling. He then went on to be Grand Champion of the North American Livestock Exposition in 2015 and Reserve Grand Champion at the NWSS in Denver in 2016. Lilly’s dam was raised by the McPhee’s in California and goes back to Brown Commitment S7206. She is a bigger framed cow with a good udder and disposition. She puts a lot of growth and carcass quality in her offspring. We would expect Lilly to be a bigger cow that will look great in the front pasture. We are offering a set of Fall Calving registered Red Angus cows out of the heart of our program. Some of the cows in the front end of this group are among our best. Big cows and later calving cows were again part of our criteria of which cows to enter in the sale. In addition, we are starting to move out some of our 2009-2011 cows to make room for new genetics. We will likely offer the rest of the 2009-2011 cows next year, but we did not plan ahead well enough this year, and logistically it was just not feasible to accomplish this year. We bought this very attractive cow as a heifer from the renouned Solution Genetics program in Iowa. She is royally bred out of the Cowboy Cut 26U bull and the SLGN Stony’s Savannah cow that J6 sold for $20,000 in 2015 to the prestigious Polzin program in Minnesota. Graham twisted our arm to get this cow in the sale. The only flaw we know of is one bigger teat that has never been a problem. Mike White of Bois De’Arc Land and Cattle in Texas bought her 2015 daughter. Her Pacesetter Y7170 daughter sells in the Fall open heifers section of this sale. Harmony’s Windsong 113A is a dark red grand-daughter of the famous Windsong 2269 cow and out of the Power Eye 161X bull that was owned by Denny Halpain of Oklahoma, J-6 of Nebraska, and Blair Ag of Canada. Power Eye 161X was known for producing classy progeny that were very successful on the show circuit. 113A could have a better udder, but it is serviceable. This is a cow that is bred to raise some fancy offspring. Her 2015 bull calf is working for Myron Edmonston of Protection, KS. She lost her 2016 calf, but raised a twin from another cow. Betty 2507 came from the Hutchinson family at Chain Ranch in Oklahoma as one of the pen of 3 Champion heifers at the NWSS in Denver in 2013. She is a DR. Phil daughter out of the MS Betty 640 donor cow that has been so prolific at Weidenbach’s in South Dakota and has 70 progeny on her record. The Ms Betty 640 cow has been flushed 15 times and produced 391 embryos, averaging 26 per flush. And, fertility must run strong in this cow line as we have AI bred the 2507 cow 4 times and she has calved to the AI sire all four times. 2507 is a very good cow that is royally bred. We are offering a set of first calf heifers out of the heart of our herd. Most of these heifers will have calves by their side by sale day, but videos and pictures were taken in early August before any calves were born. More information on the calves will be available on the sale supplement sheet. Statements about the sires of calves is based on AI dates and calf birth dates and not based on DNA verification. Best available information is included, but no guarantees are provided related to the progeny.

All heifers were AI bred on 11-17-16 and ran in the same pasture. Cleanup bulls were:Rhodes P707 Nebula 452 (1725234) In 11-19-16 Out 2-27-17Brown AA Triumph C5758 (1745807) In 12-6-17 Out 1-8-17While most of the natural service calves will likely be out of the Nebula 452 bull, in some cases DNA testing will be necessary to determine the sire of the calf. This could be due to a calf being born close to the AI date as bulls were turned in the day after AI breeding or due to a natural service calf being born close to, or during, the dates when both bulls were in the pasture. Calves out of a natural service bull have been registered as sired by the Nebula 452 sire. DNA will need to be submitted to Red Angus Association to determine the actual sire. Parent verification costs $15 or is included in the cost if you purchase 30K or 80K results. Both natural service sires and all AI sires have DNA on record at Red Angus Association..

All heifers were calf-hood vaccinated for Brucellosis and all have been PI tested negative. As calves they went thorough a thorough vaccina-tion program including Vista Once, and Alpha 7MB. Prior to breeding in the fall of 2016 they received Alpha 7, Cattlemaster 4VL5, MultiMin, Valbazen drench, and poured with a dewormer. On 4-11-17 they received Autogeneous pinkeye, MultiMin, Long-Range, an Anaplasmosis booster, Ultra Sabor pour-on, and 2 fly tags for the summer. On 8-1-11 the fly tags were pulled and the heifers dewormed with Ivermectin and given a MultiMin shot.

All heifers have 50K enhanced EPDs and are sire and dam verified to the fullest extent possible. Heifers without calves at side are guaranteed bred unless otherwise stated.

We think you will like these young females. They are the best group we offered. As we mentioned in the opening we have a large group of Fall ET calves coming our way and need to make some room for them. This group of registered heifers were freeze branded on 9-15-17 or 10-15-17. The earlier brands were just starting to show up on video day which was 10-12-17. Catalog pictures were taken on 9-29-17. All heifers have been calf-hood vaccinated for brucellosis (even though a couple have lost their clips) and all have been tested PI negative. All heifers were carcass scanned by David Aborn of Image Livestock Service on 9-8-17 and 10-14-17. A few of the heifers missed clipping day so they will have a little more hair.

At weaning the heifers had 2 rounds of: Vista Once; Autogeneous Pinkeye; Alpha 7MB; Anaplasmosis; and MultiMin. At turnout they were vaccinated with Long-Range, poured with Sabor and received 2 fly tags for the summer. On 9-22-17 they were given Vista Once, Autoge-neous Pinkeye, MultiMin, and a Valbazen drench. These heifers have had a very healthy summer. In the last 60 days they have been on a ration of free choice brome hay, 2# of Amino Gain 6, and 2# of cubes per day. They have had access to ADM mineral all summer and to Flax Lic tubs from SmartLic recently. These tubs have worked well for us in enhancing breeding success.

Olivia 699 is a PacesetterY7170 daughter out of our Olivia 200A cow that came from Brylor Ranch as one of the top selling females in the 2015 Mulberry Mayhem sale. The 200A cow is daughter of Mulberry 26P and the Vidalia 24Y cow that sold a couple of years ago for $11,000 for a 1/3 interest. On the sire side, we purchased a 25% semen interest and possession of the Pacesetter Y7170 sire last fall at the Broseco dispersal sale. Pacesetter Y71170 had been leased to Select Sires just before our purchase, and his semen has sold briskly. We like the 699 female a lot, and you can also thank Graham for having a chance to own her. Patches has some extra hair as she missed clipping day. We were fortunate to acquire some female-sexed semen on the Pie One Of A Kind 352 bull and produce some top females. One of a Kind 352 was one of the top selling bulls of Pieper’s 2013 sale going to Kirk Duff of Power Plus Genetics in Oklahoma and Wesley Glass of Wildcat Ranches in Texas for $40,000. Unfortunately, he was injured at a young age and limited semen was produced. Patches 6198 is a One of a Kind daughter, and on the dam side, she is out of our Z728 cow. Z728 is a very moderate Destination daughter we raised out of one of the top cows we acquired in the MontVue dispersal several years ago. Adina 646 is a late spring heifer we chose not to breed and to hold over until fall. Her sire is the very popular $55,000 Pie Cinch 4126 bull now at Select Sires and her dam is the GNRA Miss Direct Travel 9142 cow we flushed this past year. 9142 was bred by 5L Ranch in Montana and raised in the Garth Grffin program in Iowa. She is a black-red Angus with a good udder, and a wider flight zone. 9142 is an impressive deep, wide, cow that weighs around 1650#. Bando 6103 is a Black-Red Angus out of the Conquest 118A bull that is doing a great job for us. On the dam side is the Bando 924B cow that we raised. 924B is on the smaller side of moderate and an attractive cow with a good udder and temperament. At about 3 weeks of age Bando 6103 was stranded across the creek from her dam during high water. It was 3 days before she got mated back up, and we did not think she would make it. We did have to doctor her, but she has steadily progressed ever since. She is smaller, but also both of her parents are moderate sized animals. Her grand-dam is the S311 cow that is in the Fall cow section of this sale and she is still going strong at 11 years of age. Bando 6103 has a very good pedigree and a strong and balanced set of EPDs.
