Lego Robotics

• The students will build a Lego NXT robot to complete various tasks

• Contestants will demonstrate their ability to: a. Students will design and build an NXT

robot limited to thee motors and three sensor of any type b. Students will use NXT program to

program the NXT robot to complete various tasks

c. Students will be given 3 min to complete as many tasks as possible

Dome Building

• To use all 10 plastic bags to create a free-standing structure that can hold 3 people without being part of the structure or supporting it in any way.

• Only the air blowing into the structure will be allowed to keep the structure up.

Bridge Building

To design and fabricate a truss bridge given specifications for width and span.

CO2 Dragsters

• Draw a design of car with dimensions.• Design and build car according to

specifications.• Add style elements to car (paint etc.)• Car is tested for inertia, distance measured.• Car races in single or double elimination

rounds depending on number of entries.

SimCity

• The objective of SimCity, as the name of the game suggests, is to build and design a city, with specific goals that you must achieve relating to taxes, population, health, education etc.

Cake Decorating• No more that 4 kids per group• Template of cake design is required.• No baking molds are accepted• Cake, cookies, rice crispy etc. squares need to be pre-

baked, pre-cut and shaped.• Frosting is pre-mixed and colored.• 95% of items must be edible!• Student groups will be given 90 minutes to assemble

cake. • It will be judged against template design and then

against all other cakes.

Extemporaneous speaking:• Requires contestants to give a three- to five-

minute speech on an assigned topic with five minutes of advance preparation.

• Contestants enter the preparation area one at a time where they are given a speech topic.

• They are judged on voice, mechanics, platform deportment, organization and effectiveness

Prepared speech

• Requires students to deliver a speech five to seven minutes in length on a common theme established by National SkillsUSA early in the school year.

• Contestants are evaluated on their ability to present thoughts relating to a central theme clearly and effectively, and on voice, mechanics, and platform deportment.

Job Interview

• Divided into three phases: completion of employment applications; preliminary interviews with receptionist; and, in-depth interviews.

• Contestants are evaluated on their understanding of employment procedures faced in applying for positions in the occupational areas for which they are training.
