Vol 02 | No. 5 International Stars Section May, 2011
Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, the National MBCA and the Concours d’Elegance of America cordially invite all MBCA members and their immediate family to a joint event at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan July 31, 2011. Friday, April 29, the National MBCA board of directors unanimously approved the special national event. This includes funding and support by the MBCA national business office as well as the board of directors. This will be a once in a lifetime event. We will be able to park on the St. John’s Inn golf course in a special parking area next to both the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services (MBFS) employee parking and the Concours d’Elegance show field. At the present moment, we are negotiating with the MBFS group to have them provide our entry tickets and lunch. MBFS expects 300 plus employee driven clean 2011 Mercedes-Benz vehicles to be on the fairway. They expect around 500 employees and their families. Our best cars will be placed in a unique parking area for our “fun concours” to show the employees some of our historical Mercedes-Benz cars. MBCA will have a tent on the show field across
from the Concours d’Elegance grouping of 125 years of Mercedes-Benz. We will be the ambassadors for our club. Our hope is that by having a large presence on the field and with MBFS that we will gain some new members. We will do this by giving each MBFS employee a copy of the July-August STAR and encourage them to sign up. In addition, we will be giving the STAR to those who sign up to be members. We will be having a video media presentation through out the day. This will consist of MBCA video as well as MBUSA videos. MBFS’s CEO has approved their family day event. All that remains is approval by their Operating Committee (10 top MBFS executives). We are confident that they will approve the joint event. However, if they do not, we do have a very solid plan “B”. All together the national MBCA will fund $6,200. Plus, locally, we are pledging $1,000 from our treasury. The national MBCA budget is below…
• $2,000 for a 60% off price for a tent on the Concours show field to showcase MBCA and other cool stuff
• $1,200 to sponsor the "Most significant Mercedes-Benz" trophy
• $1,500 for Social Media and on line advertising - to be done by the National MBCA
• $1,500 for a publication over-run of the July-August Star to insert into goodie bags for MBFS employees and the rest for distribution to folks who sign up to be members (@ ~ $2.00 each = 750 magazines)
We requested that MBCA provide the following support: Support of the national board to run this as a special national event; public relations and media articles in local papers; use of MBCA flags, banners, tent, & etc.; (see next page)

A Concours d’Elegance Event at the Inn at St. John’s with

A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT ! continued
Use of MBCA National Business Office (NBO)
Personnel; Door hang tags for MBFS cars; 3 email
blasts – May, June, July to all national MBCA
members with email addresses; NBO marketing to our
members; Ad in the STAR magazine; sponsor the
“Most Significant Mercedes-Benz Award”; and more.
Our International Stars section will negotiate with
MBFS to provide lunch for our members, entry tickets,
a professional photographer to capture the event and
other items as they come up.
This is a BIG deal! Plan to be there! Many of our
national MBCA board members as well as MBCA
members from across the country will be there to
celebrate with us.
What do you have to do right now?… It would be
very helpful if you would contact Pete Williams and tell
him that you will be coming to the show. Use the
attached application form to sign up for the event.
We spoke earlier about a Plan “B”: We would still
have all the MBCA sponsored part of the event,
however parking, admission, and lunch would be
different. In the event that we have to do a Plan “B”
we would contact you well in advance and let you
know what the fees would be. It would still be a
whopper of an event, but the MBFS component would
be different or nonexistent.
MBCA members with non Mercedes-Benz vehicles
will not be able to park with us. Non MB vehicles will
park with the general public and we will have to make
other admission arrangements which might cost the
member some money. MBCA members with rusty,
shabby, or dilapidated MB vehicles will not be able to
park in the MBCA show area. We believe that MBFS
will want them to park at the rear of the MBFS parking
area. MBFS is paying for use of the fairway to park
cars and desires “Only the BEST”… We can stretch
things a little, but it’s their set of rules.
Fill out the attached form and send it to Pete
Williams at the indicated address. RSVP no later than
July 11, 2011. (This date may change.)
We should know by next week what the MBFS
portion of the event will look like. We would like to co-
locate and rub shoulders with them. Perhaps we can
even encourage some of their employees to become
members... which would indeed be very sweet!
Continued next column.
This will be a golden opportunity to gain new members from the MBFS family. MBCA National views this as a great opportunity to gain the friendship of MBFS as well as a new member opportunity. This will also be a phenomenal show at a new venue. Are we excited? You bet! Can we do it? Well with your help and participation it will be an excellent event. April Dust-Off / Crank-Up Auto CollectionTour
Sunday, April 17, 2011 was a great day. It was a little chilly and then ended up with a drizzle. We were invited to tour the Richard (Dick) Kughn auto collection. Mr. Kughn is a pre-eminent collector of a variety of classic cars. Four car clubs were present. (Buick, T-Bird, VMCCA and MBCA) The Cadillac-LaSalle club also asked to join us, but with over 125 attendees we were already past our maximum. Sadly, we had to turn them away. We visited four of Mr. Kughn’s warehouses. Each was accessorized with automotive signs and collectables. Each of his buildings contained beautiful cars most of which, in our humble opinion, could be shown in a Concours event… and some of them have been. There was one sad note in that our host, Mr. Kughn had a health issue and could not be present to accept the appreciation plaque. His staff took over and stood in for him. We understand that he is now fine. Check out the pictures to see a sample of what was there. If you missed the event, you really missed a wonderful event. We closed out the day with a meal at Thomas’s Restaurant on Plymouth Rd. There were 28 MBCA members who signed up for the event. Our newest member, Salig Sharma, unfortunately had a distributor issue with his car and could not continue to our final warehouse. He had to be towed home. Check out some of the cars in the parking lot. Sometimes they are as interesting as what’s inside. Many thanks to Ruth Cheshire, Don Sommers and the Kughn staff for this wonderful opportunity.
