Find opportunities for you and your family to continue in your faith journey this summer!

I’m going out on a limb in this newsletter and I’m going to use the “S” word. Yes, you read

correctly...I’m actually going to say the “S” word. SUMMER! It really IS going to happen.

Yes, summer is quickly approaching. So often we hear it said in the church, “In the summer things really slow down. People are gone on the weekends and are busy with all sorts of activities. Not much

happens at church during the summer.”

At Faith Lutheran we rejoice that God doesn’t take summers off from loving and caring for us and in response...neither do we!

Planning now for how to intentionally spend your summer will keep it from just passing by and will keep you connected to your Faith family. God has prepared many unique opportunities for you to continue in

your faith journey and God calls you by name into those opportunities.

VBS Faith Night ~ Wednesday, June 11 People of all age groups are invited to attend VBS on June 11th. We will have sample ministry opportunities offered to peak a variety of interests. These ministry opportunities will then continue on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer!

PRESIDENT’S NOTES Dear Friends, Our youth have been busy raising money for their summer camps and mission trips. Thanks to all of you who bid on the silent auction or bought something at their rummage sale. They have had a lot of fun doing it and the energy in the church is amazing! At the April council meeting, we approved the hiring of Melissa Pflaum as our new custodian and also invited Pastor Barb to provide feedback on her first three months at Faith. Her general comment about her experience: My first three months at Faith Lutheran have been absolutely wonderful. I feel that my thoughts and observations have been valued, I’ve been supported by staff and congregational mem-bers, I’ve been offered freedom to try new things. It’s just been wonderful. Pastor Barb shared her short term goal is to develop relationships with the members of Faith Lutheran - to hear our stories and identity the strengths and needs of the congregation as a whole and as individu-als. Additionally, she said that she is always looking for and appreciate constructive feedback. We’re all in this together and I believe we hold one another accountable, we encourage one another, and we work for the Good of God’s mission together. Another highlight of our Council meeting was the report from the Outreach Committee, led by Kristyn Maixner. This group evaluated the needs of Dodge Center and the local area, which included mental health resources, food, housing/homelessness and decided to address food and hunger, especially since it is a “stepping stone” to other issues. This focus is exciting on multiple points:

It bodes well with the backpack project that our church is coordinating for Triton students. In this well-received program, Triton children receive a backpack in their locker every Friday afternoon with nutrition meals for their family for the weekend. There is no fee for children to receive the bags. Shelley Franko and Wendy Myer are coordinating this project.

This priority aligns with new synod-wide focus of “sharing food, discovering grace.” It is Bishop Steve Delzer’s goal, by the end of his six year term, to put an end to food insecurity in southern Minnesota.

The Stewardship Committee, led by Charlott Wilhelm, is inviting you to plant an additional seed packet this spring and bring your extra produce to the fellowship hall on a designated Sunday.

Our well-attended Wednesday community meals will continue throughout the summer.

Look for information in the coming months on the Outreach Committee’s “Pantry of Faith” project and a “Set the Table” project to share a monthly meal at Heritage Estates. And, again, we thank God for all that we have in abundance and the wonderful lead-ers that guide us. Jaci Gosse, Faith Lutheran Council President

FINANCIAL CORNER Hi All!

“Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them” Exodus 25:8 This month I thought I would share with you some of the details of the building loan. Long time members may know some of this but we have many new members so I thought I would include some background about the building loan. When we built our new sanctuary in 2008 we took out a loan through Mission Investment Fund to pay for that beautiful addition. The beginning loan amount was $995,000.00. I am not sure what the interest rate was at that time but we have re-negotiated and currently pay 4.75% inter-est. Each month we are billed for $5,424.00. When donations allow we like to pay more than that to help get this loan paid down while we have favorable low interest rates. We do not move funds from the gen-eral fund to the building fund but depend on only funds designated for the building to make our loan pay-ment. When giving your offering you are always welcome to designate your gift to the building fund or any other fund you wish to support. We currently have been making a payment of $6,564.00 each month. (Insert drum roll) Through the generosity of the people of Faith we have paid our loan down to $740,793.62 as of 3/31/2014. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Monthly Finance Report as of 3/31/14 Balance in General Checking: $59,468.85 Balance in Dedicated Accounts: $54,852.71 Balance in Building Checking: $14,974.03 General Income in March: $14,112.19 General Expenses in March: $17,068.08 General Income YTD: $41,360.10 General Expenses YTD: $44,772.38 Building Income in March: $4,039.99 Building Expense in March: $6,564.00 Building Income YTD: $13,416.24 Building Expense YTD: $19,692.00

Stewardship is so much more than that “M word” that we hear about in the fall. When I think of steward-ship, I think more of being a caretaker of what God has entrusted to us to take care of wisely. Spring is a time to take care of God’s environment, like cleaning up after the winter snows and planting seeds for a new crop. We are stewards of the soil as gardeners and farmers. This spring we are asking families to plant an extra packet of seeds or an extra plant to share the bounty with others. Not everyone has the place to put a garden in and not everyone has the resources, but by planting just a couple of extra things in our own gardens we can create extras to share. We are in the early stages of the planning for this new adventure but we are at a time where we need to get the word out so that people can get the seeds/plants into the ground so that we will have things to share this summer/fall. The Stewardship committee will set up times throughout the summer/fall for people to bring extra pro-duce to the church to share. We will also be working with the Outreach committee to help feed the hun-gry in the Dodge Center area with this project. I am looking forward to summer as we work on building relationships as good stewards! I am looking for people who are interested in this project or have ideas to share about being a steward. We will meet once a month during coffee hour. Contact Charlott Wilhelm if you are interested in serving on this com-

mittee.

SERVICE VOLUNTEERS OUTREACH COMMITTEE

CELEBRATION OF LIFE LUNCHEON Join us Saturday, April 10th at Faith Lutheran for the Annual Cele-bration of Life Luncheon. Our speaker this year is Marette Jorgenson. Marette traveled as a musical missionary in England, on the east coat and in Jamaica. Over the years her devotions have turned into books, CD’s and speaking engagements. Her devotions can be read at her blog, www.specialtouchmusic.blogspot.com or on her Facebook page Special Touch Ministry. If you plan to attend the luncheon on May 10th (doors open at 9:00am), please sign up asap! We need numbers so that we have an accurate count of those wanting to attend. Sign up in the narthex or call Vernice at 374-2163 or Rita at 633-2476.

Calling all Men! We are asking the “Men of Faith” to help serve our Annual Celebration of Life Luncheon. If you would like to help out, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex. Thank you!

Exciting News! The newly formed out-reach committee is moving forward with a new mission/ministry called "Pantry of Faith". After intentional research and much discussion, we are focusing our efforts on food insecurity and hunger in Dodge Center. We are finalizing plans which would enable us to provide food and other necessities to those who ur-gently need them right here in our com-munity. There will be many opportunities

for involvement, so stay tuned for more information on how you can be a part of this much needed ministry! We need your help! We are in search of a 'pantry cupboard' to utilize for this ministry. If anyone has one they would like to donate or lend to the church long term, please contact Pastor Barb at [email protected] or Kristyn Maixner at [email protected] so that we might assess if it would fit the needs of the ministry.

Faith In Action (FIA) is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to coordinate volunteers from all faiths to provide services to senior citizens that enable them to stay in their own homes for as long as possible. Our primary funding event is an annual Golf Tournament. Beginning this year, and with God’s help, continuing into the future we are making the tournament an all church event. We hope to bring our message to and develop a caring relationship with the churches of Dodge County. What better way to kick-off than sharing in fun and fellowship of golf and dinner. We invite you to join us as we outreach to the needs of others with faith families from around the county. We will be asking for one or more 4 person golf teams, all ages, for a best ball tournament. We encourage your church to provide a sign for your golf cart or cats so that individuals might be associated with their church. More specific in-formation on tournament dates, location and price will follow after final preparations have been made.
