Eagle Eye MARCH 2014 A Note from the PTA Co-Presidents Well, what is there to say but, “At least it’s March and this winter HAS to end soon!?”. It’s been a rough one for sure and I know we are all looking forward to the warmer days that we will hopefully be experiencing by the end of this month! Please note that with the weather closings in January, and barring any further emergency day offs, our current last day of school at Steck now lands on June 6 th . This year, the last day of school is a full day and field day will take place on this day. Of course the big event coming to Steck in March is our annual school carnival!! This year it will take place on March 15 th from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the school. We hope that all Steck families can be there to join in the fun and games. This is a large event that requires a lot of planning and volunteers. So thank you to all those who put the Ime and effort into running this event. The students appreciate it so much and look forward to this event all year! March 28 th will bring another fun Steck tradiIon – the Spring room parIes! There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make these happen and we want to thank all the volunteers who make it happen! We would also like to encourage you and your family to aMend the 6th Annual District 204 Student Summer AcIviIes Fair on Wednesday, March 5 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at SIll Middle school. Exhibitors at the Student Summer AcIviIes Fair will display summer programs available throughout the community for all ages as well as provide high school students with informaIon about volunteer opportuniIes. This is always a popular fair and a lot of fun for families! The next general PTA meeIng will be held on Tuesday, March 11 th at 7:00 in the Steck MPR and our Dinner Night Out this month will be at Zoup! (1167 N Eola Rd) on March 25 th between 3pm and 9pm! IPPC Update

Highlights of the 2/20/14 Indian Prairie Parent’s council mee;ng include:

• The Charter School Commission was dissolved.• The STEM Partner School, a partnership between East Aurora, West

Aurora, District 204, and Aurora University will accept students for the 2014-‐2015 school year. Students will be chosen by loOery.

• The district is working in conjunc;on with Naperville 203 and Wheaton 200 to develop a virtual consor;um. Courses will first be offered at the high school level.

• The district will join the DuPage Valley Athle;c Conference in the 2015-‐2016 school year.

• Kathy and Mike Luczynski were honored as the BMO Harris Volunteers of the Month.

• The student summer ac;vi;es fair will be held March 5, 2014 from 6:00-‐8:00 PM. Organiza;ons that offer summer programs will be available to discuss their programs. 2015 school year, student to laptop ra;o will be 5:1 as D204 prepares for PARCC assessments. Devices such as iPads, iPods, tablets, etc. are IN ADDITION to the 5:1 student:laptop ra;o. D204 is purchasing light, thin laptops with longer baOery lives because iPads are not working for assessments in other districts due to not having keyboards or BlueTooth accessibility.

Thank You for Helping to Raise $ for Steck

As you know we just finished the Box Top Contest last Friday. The results have now been tabulated and the winning class is 5 Z!! Congratulations!!! Mrs. Zdenovec’s class will receive free wrist bands to the spring carnival! The very close runners up were 3S and 5H! Great work everyone. We raised over $2,500.00 in this contest alone! Over $4,000.00 this school year with your help. Each student should be very proud of their contribution. Please remember that we are still accepting box tops and labels through the end of the year.

The Third Grade Team would like to

thank all of the parents for a wonderful

Teacher Appreciation Week. The surprises

each day were so thoughtful. We loved

the lunch on Friday. We know how

lucky we are to be your child’s teacher.

Sincerely,

This engaging one day camp promotes creativity through illustration of a graphic novel. Kids will create their own story from start to finish by developing characters, plots, settings, events and climax. Structure a story with Beginning, Middle and an End;; themed around pets and animals . Kids would write script and dialogues for characters. Kids would then take their story and illustrate it. Draw colorful scenes with characters. Pictures of illustrations would be taken by us. Kids would use these pictures and software to design and layout the graphic novel. The graphic novel would be printed and given to the child at a later date. Kids will benefit with language development, apply and enhance artistic skills and create a unique graphic novel to share with family and friends.
