A Note from the Principal’s Desk...Milk DriveA couple of weeks ago the school undertook a mission to collect 200kg of milk powder. This would be shipped off to help LifeChanger Christian College, Vanuatu give their students a healthy breakfast of Weet-bix and milk.
Amazingly, the school raised over 310kg of milk powder. Kylan Martinelli and Daniel Lightfoot from 6W were out every morning recording and collecting the kilos of milk powder students had donated. A big thanks to everyone who pitched in to help.
In Vanuatu milk is very expensive and many parents cannot afford this essential product.
On Monday the 28th of February, the milk powder was loaded onto a truck. It will be shipped off to Vanuatu. This will be enough to supply at least a year.
A big thanks to Mrs Kathy Silic who spoke with staff at Woolworths Green Hills who then generously donated $50 worth of milk powder, so also a big thanks to Woolies!
Also, we’d like to mention Calvary Chapel Newcastle too, as they donated $100 after being spoken to by a Year 8 girl.
There was also a huge $50 donation by an unknown parent. We thank them deeply.

We are seeking assistance from local businesses and community to join with us, to support students as they step outside of their comfort zone and head overseas to support those less fortunate than themselves. In 2019, Year 11 Construction Students will spend a week in Indonesia connecting with school Sekolah Pelita Harapan for their mandatory construction work placement to complete a building project for a local Village School. We are seeking support from local industry in the form of financial sponsorship for the trip. This could mean supporting an individual student/ group, donation of required equipment or donation of time accompanying the group to assist with construction work. Please contact either Carlie Boyle or Joram van der Velde for further information. [email protected]@spcc.nsw.edu.au

CIS Primary Basketball Trials
Dylan Wherrett from Year 6 went to Sydney last Friday to try out for a position in the highly sought-after CIS Primary Boys basketball team. The day began with about 70 entrants. Each round of games was designed to reduce the number of players so a final 20 boys could be selected. Dylan impressed the selectors with his skills and made the final 20. Although he didn’t progress any further, this was an outstanding achievement and we wish Dylan all the best in his representative Hunter Games.Well done!

Blazers: It is time to find your child’s blazer from last year and see if it still fits. Our supplier Trutex supplies blazers to a lot of schools so to ensure you get the size you need for your child, please place your order NOW. Please note: your child must be fitted in the shop before an order can be placed. We have 2 styles: unisex and women’s – a more fitted style.
A big thankyou to the many parents who have visited to do this in the last fortnight… You will be called shortly to advise your blazer is in and ready for collection. Quite a few blazers have come in to our amazing second-hand area in the past week, check out the list below!
Ordering Online: The new SPCC website does not have the capacity for online ordering to the shops. We are currently working on a webstore for your convenience. Until this is up and running, please place you orders by phoning the shop during opening hours on 49606699 or emailing [email protected]. We appreciate your patience with this changeover.
Second-hand: A huge thank you to our volunteer Liz who has been helping with the 2nd-hand processing at Waratah for over 5 years! What an effort and what help she has been to our school community. We are now looking for someone to fill her place and help with the sorting and pricing of items. This can be done at a time that suits you each week and….you might find items that you need for your child! If you can help, please email the shop: [email protected]
Even more bags processed this week to ensure that there is a variety of items on our racks for you to grab a bargain. The smart shoppers think a season ahead and seeing how many winter items are currently available, it is time to start thinking what your child will need in Term 2. A huge thankyou to those families who are supporting the school and helping other school families by dropping in uniform items to be sold via the shop or making a donation to
our welfare boxes. This is a hassle free way to get rid of the items you no longer need and we have lots of parents browsing through the racks and shelves each week. Consignment forms available at the shop or by downloading from the SPCC webpage via the ‘uniform shop” tab. Alternatively, you can make a sign and place it on the pin-board outside the shop as we have a lot of passing trade. When purchasing or selling second-hand items from any of the 4 SPCC uniform shops you can be assured that you are purchasing good quality and correct uniform items as our processors follow the SPCC Second-Hand Policy and this ensures that standard of uniform at St Philip’s remains high.
