Mrs. Annie Laura London Bates Annie was born Monday, September 14, 1931 to the parentage of Henry and Agnes Woods London in Longview, TX. On Friday, August 15, 2014 she departed this life at Longview Regional Hospital in Longview, Texas.
In her early years she united with and was baptized at Pleasant Green Baptist Church and served dutifully until her health failed. She was a faithful working member serving in the Choir, on the Culinary Committee, in the Missionary Society and was honored by the church as one of its distinguished senior members.
She attended New Hope and Fredonia public schools and graduated from Greenville High School (later Ned E. Williams High School) in Longview.
Many of her years were spent as a homemaker; however, she was employed for 19 years before retirement at the Cherokee Club with prior work at various institutes as a cook. Although she was known for her amazing cooking skills, she was also proficient in her other hobbies of candle making and flower arranging.
She married John Bates in 1952 and six children were born to this union.
Her parents, husband, five brothers, Oliver, Bursey, Sr., James, Henry and Louis London and a sister, Henry Mae London all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish four daughters and sons-in-law; Joyce Bates and Barbara Evans both of Longview, TX, Gwen and Rev. James Shans of Henderson, TX and Regina and Kim Geter of Kilgore, TX; two sons and daughter-in-law, John “Kent” Bates of Longview, TX and Kelvin and Peggy Bates of Ardmore, OK; a sister and her spouse, Betty and Vernon Stoker, Sr. of Longview, TX; a brother, Clarence London of Dallas, TX; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie London of Dallas, TX; George and Bobbie Bates, Webster and Mildred Bates, Har-vey and Rosetta Bates, Avie London and Beverly London all of Longview, TX; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
