Nashville To hosT iTs secoNd sTreeT survival, a TeeN safe driviNg Program On Saturday May 15, 2010, members of the BMW Car Club of America (BMW CCA) and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will host their second Street Survival in the greater Nashville area. The event will be held at the Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, TN, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Street Survival school is a teen safe driving program designed to go beyond today’s required driver’s edu-cation and give teens across the U.S. the driving tools and hands-on experience to become safer, smarter drivers. Last year, over 5,000 teenagers died in motor vehicle crashes, the leading killer of American youths aged 16 to 19, accounting for more than 40 percent of fatalities in that age bracket and Tennessee is ranked 6th for the most teen motor vehicle fatalities. Street Survival is a non-profit national driver education pro-gram aimed at teaching teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel. The one day program is a mixture of classroom and hands-on exercises with a coach in the vehicle with the student. In the classroom they learn about proper seating and hand positions, mirror placement, the con-cept of the contact patch of their tires, the theories of weight transfer, and the use of long distance vision and situational awareness. Then the student is put through a series of exercises that are based on real world situations. The student learns skid control on a wet skid pad; goes through lane change/accident avoidance maneuvers; braking exercises, and they drive a slalom course to learn about weight transfer. The fee for the school is $75, which also includes a one year membership in the local BMW CCA or SCCA chapter. Participants must be 16-21 years of age and parents are encouraged to attend and participate in the classroom sessions with their teen. They will see the program firsthand and lean valuable information themselves. To find out more and to register, visit www.streetsurvival.org. Space is limited so people are encouraged to sign up early. ContactDarien [email protected]

Bobby Rahal’s Legends of Motorsports at Barbers

Motorsports Park

Sports Car Digest Oct 30, 2009

Barber Motorsports Park will join with Historic Motorsports Productions (HMP) to present a unique vintage racing and automotive lifestyle event. “Bobby Rahal’s Legends of Motorsports” will debut at the stunning permanent road course on May 20-23, 2010.

Page 11: A Newsletter of the Musik-Stadt Porsche Club April 2010From the Goodwood Revival in England to Monterey Historics held in California, we bring the very latest vintage racing action

“Barber Motorsports Park is a jewel among North American racing facilities,” said Rahal, winner of the 1986 Indianapolis 500. “The attention to detail throughout the property is unsurpassed. The Barber organization’s appreciation and respect for racing evolution is obvious, making any vintage racing event on their grounds a tradition in the making.”

Barber Motorsports Park and HMP will host a wide array of vintage racing car classes on the immaculately manicured permanent road course. These include GTP/Group C; 3.0 Liter era Formula One; F.I.A. Championship of Makes; 2.0 Liter Sports Racers; Trans-Am; Can-Am; NASCAR; IMSA GT/Production Cars; Formula Libre and F5000.

“Bobby Rahal is a true racing hero and an active steward of American racing tradition,” said Jeff Ewing, vice president, Zoom Motorsports, promoters for Barber Motorsports Park. “He and HMP will bring a stirring collection of amazing teams and priceless bygone cars to our track. And with Bobby’s talented son Graham expected to compete in our debut Indy Racing League event, Barber Motorsports Park will host two generations of Rahals in 2010.”

Above and beyond the thrilling on-track action, Barber’s Legends of Motorsports weekend will also incorporate unique shoulder programming including a public race car parade, cocktail reception and charity event. Ticket prices and packages for the weekend event are expected to soon be announced.

“As a fellow vintage racer, I’m excited to join with so many of the best in our sport at Barber Motorsports Park, a truly extraordinary track,” said Peter Stoneberg, partner, Historic Motorsports Productions. “The love of auto racing is extremely strong throughout the Southeast and with few places more passionate than Alabama. With Bobby Rahal literally leading the parade, we’ll have something for hard-core NASCAR fans and much, much more.”

For ticket information, please contact the Barber Motorsports Park ticket office at 800-240-2300 or on-line at www.barbermotorsports.com.

Get your calendars out and plan now for your next road trip to Lexington, Kentucky the weekend of July 15-17, for the 7th annual Keeneland Concours d’Elegance. This year’s featured marque is Italy’s legendary Ferrari, an automobile revered worldwide as the epitome of class, speed, and style. This is a great opportunity to see some of the same great automobiles you would expect to see at Pebble Beach or Amelia Island, but without the long drive and expense of being a spectator. The event is held at the beautiful grounds of the Entertainment Center adjacent to the Keeneland Racetrack. A creative and fun-filled weekend of events with the Bourbon Tour, a black-tie “Venetian Masquerade Ball”, Hangar Bash, and the Tour d’Elegance. Judging from the preliminary list of exhibitors thus far, Saturday’s Concours d’Elegance has every indication of being another spectacular event you wouldn’t want to miss! While the Keeneland Concours strives to bring a collection of the finest automobiles, motorcycles, and new for 2010, wooden boats, to the Bluegrass, our ultimate goal is to showcase Kentucky Children’s Hospital at the University of Kentucky.

Admission to the event is $15 which is collected as you enter the grounds. Each year during the Keeneland Concours d’Elegance, hundreds of car enthusiasts from all around the state and region join the shine ‘n show 'n fellowship in the Paddock Area of the Concours, a specially-designated parking area in close proximity to the juried automobiles. Its popularity has grown so much that in 2010 we will require clubs to make a reservation for a spot in the Paddock! The Paddock Challenge attracts Alfa Romeos, Audis, British Sterlings, Cobras, Corvettes, Ferraris, Hot Rods, Maseratis, Miatas, Mini-Coopers, Model A, Mustangs, Porsches and many others. There will also be a “Hanger Bash” party after the concours on Saturday across the highway at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky. Party starts at 7pm and there will be light finger food and liquid libations. There will be several old museum planes there and also a “fly-in” of about 20 vintage planes, including a P51, around 4pm. Tickets to the Hanger Bash are $50 each. This stylish, high-energy party is the perfect opportunity for guests to gather together over food and drink to enjoy an evening of casual fun. Think lots of Porsches, add a few airplanes, great music, perhaps a trendy fashion show, and you've got the perfect formula for intelligent design!
