As those who are taught to pray ‘your will be done, your kingdom come’, defining the next stage in our life and calling has the potential to be both exciting and stimulating, but many leaders find these transitions stressful, uncertain and often quite lonely. Leaving a familiar context of ministry, moving ourselves and maybe our family is a complex adventure which can be hard to navigate.

We believe that when men and women step out in faith and face a new challenge in response to the call of God, it is a precious time for both them and the new parish. Let us walk with you on the uncertain journey of change.

The following events are part of the offering that our team provide.  If this

resonates with your current journey, give us a call, or write us an email.

We’d love to travel with you.

if following Jesus is a journey, the times when we change jobs are major junctions in the road. cPas has for many years sought to support leaders as they navigate times of change and there is now more help available than ever.

our regular Moving on days are forum-style events offering insight into the tricky subject of moving jobs. As well as giving godly space to think about this important subject, the days provide a biblical framework to the discernment process and help participants consider how to make good choices. Moving on days also cover the practicalities of completing good applications and handling interviews well.

Visit www.cpas.org.uk/movingroles to see details of upcoming Moving On events.

new chaPTers conference

Are you moving to a new post soon? or have you recently moved? new Chapters is a new

conference specifically for clergy who are moving to a new incumbency or area of ministry. This practical and spiritual retreat will help you fire up the new phase of ministry God has called you to. We will cover areas such as letting go of the past and grabbing the potential of a new beginning, making the early days count, discerning fresh vision and establishing new patterns. new Chapters is suitable for anyone who is already appointed to a post but hasn’t yet moved, and anyone within the first nine months of a new appointment.

We have helped hundreds of leaders step up to a first post of overall responsibility with confidence at CPAS The Buck Stops here conferences. These residential conferences are a unique opportunity for ordained

people who are drawing near to or have recently

taken up their first incumbency.

There is input and discussion on a variety of themes, including expectations of

leadership, changing roles,

managing a PCC, self-organisation, managing

change, strategic planning and leading in different contexts (e.g. multi-parish benefices). There is advice from experienced ministers, Bible teaching, discussion, prayer, worship, space for reflection and also an opportunity to raise your own concerns.

The Buck Stops here conferences run lunchtime to lunchtime over 48 hours and cost £310 per person to attend.

useful resourcesGrove booksThe Quantum Leap – From Assistant to Senior Minister by Adrian Beavis is packed with wisdom won the hard way on how to ease the transition, with advice on handling the loneliness of leadership, avoiding comparisons with your predecessor and looking after not only the building but, most importantly, yourself.

Leaving Well by Andy Piggott is for those leaving to take up a new post, or moving from one area of ministry to another. This helpful study explores leaving as a theme in scripture, from Abraham’s calling to Paul’s missionary journeys. Reinforced by theological principles, it explores a series of practical ways in which ministers can leave well.
