A new bus service for Beachlands and Maraetai

From 10 December 2017, new bus route will replace the existing 589.

New route: The 739 connects Maraetai, Beachlands, Ormiston and Botany, and now connects Beachlands and Maraetai in both directions. The route through Beachlands has also changed, see the map for details.

New buses: Look out for the brand new blue AT Metro buses.

New timetable: The 739 will run hourly, 7 days a week. On weekdays it will operate from 6am to 7pm and weekends from 7am to 7pm.

New bus stops: Some bus stops are closing and new stops are opening. See inside for a list of changes.

This change is part of an exciting transformation of the public transport network in Auckland. The New Network has already been implemented in South and West Auckland.

The Beachlands and Maraetai bus service is changing

All of East Auckland’s buses will change as part of the New Network from Sunday 10 December 2017

What are the benefits of the new ?• More frequent

• Simpler route which connects Beachlands and Maraetai to the new Countdown in the Pohutukawa Coast Shopping Centre and to Pak’nSave in Ormiston

No more ‘hail and ride’To ensure everyone’s safety, from 10 December passengers will only be picked up from designated bus stops. The previous ‘hail and ride’ option on Whitford-Maraetai Road will no longer operate as it is a high speed road with increasing traffic. Your closest bus stops are in Whitford Village, in front of (stop 1988) and opposite (stop 6884) the BP petrol station near the roundabout.

We heard you, Beachlands and Maraetai!These improvements are in response to the 541 submissions received from the public transport survey in October / November 2015. People requested more bus services more often, and we took this on board for the new 739 service. In February 2016 we also increased the Pine Harbour ferry sailings from 28 to 40 on weekdays and provided additional Friday services.

There’s more to come!Auckland Transport is aware of the pressure that growth in the area is placing on transport options.

The new 739 is just one step towards addressing these issues. We are also:

• Investigating long term options to reduce crowding on the Pine Harbour ferry services at peak times, as well as options for weekend services.

• Planning to explore a ferry feeder bus service to Pine Harbour. However, there is limited budget available for this until the completion of the New Network estimated for late 2018.
