Doug LeidigPresident & CEO, Asbury Communities, Inc.

Senior living and aging services organizations – like any business – are constantly evolving. What sets us apart, though, is a unique combination of people and

principles that give us the ability to help shape how society views the older adults we serve and the process of aging itself.

Historically, older adults have been viewed as a burden to society; an expense line item. Asbury has long known that is just not the case.

A great majority of seniors continue to be important contributors in their local communities, driven by their skills, knowledge, and compassion to find meaningful ways to serve others. At Asbury, we, too, are driven to serve.

In the past year, we have positioned ourselves to grow our mission to do all the good we can by identifying opportunities for new product lines and services that meet seniors where they live – honoring the continued desire by many older adults to age in place and to age well.

We were extremely pleased to welcome Asbury Place to the Asbury Communities system. They share our vision to redefine the expectations of aging, and do so every day for the 500 residents living at their campuses in Kingsport and Maryville, Tenn.

Our smart growth strategy ensures that we will remain financially strong while forging partnerships with others seeking to align with a system. And, we laid the groundwork in key operational areas such as Human Resources and Clinical Services to provide stellar services to associates, residents and clients even as we grow.

Looking at new growth opportunities is bringing new life and new thinking into an industry that has always been fairly traditional.

We look forward to being part of those conversations as our industry moves into the future together.

Carolyn StamatakisChair, Asbury Communities Board of Directors

s I look back on the past year, I cannot help but reflect on the journey Asbury and I have taken together.

When I joined the Asbury Board in 1996 as a member of the Compensation Committee, our system was comprised of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Md., and Asbury Solomons in Calvert County, Md. Today, we are a system of eight communities in four states.

Through this growth, I have served many roles in Asbury governance.

It has been challenging and exciting to be part of the journey to build what is now the nation’s 18th largest not-for-profit system of continuing care retirement communities and related services.

Asbury’s Strategic Plan for the coming years positions us well to maintain our commitment to the organization’s 90-year legacy of providing exceptional lifestyle opportunities for seniors, while fulfilling a new vision for growing the organization and its services.

As I think about all that we have accomplished, I do so with grateful appreciation to the many associates and volunteer Board members, both from the past and the present, whose great talent and dedication have brought us to the place this organization is today.

I am truly humbled to have served among them and look forward to continuing to make my contribution to Asbury’s future.
