Year of the Family
You have to teach not just about a subject, but
also life's values and habits" because when it
comes to learning about a subject, a computer is
sufficient, but to understand how to love, to
understand what the values and habits are that
create harmony in the world, you need a good
teacher." Pope Francis
NT Training Awards
On Saturday night, Rainbows staff from Holy Family
Catholic Primary School attended the NT Training
Awards after being shortlisted for Small Employee of
the Year. We were very excited to receive the runners
up award for this category. The award is in
recognition of the amazing work Michelle Shaw and
her staff commit to in working with our young
trainees and getting them to achieve their Cert 3 in
Early Education and Care and Diploma’s
in Early Education and Care. We have also had two
leadership qualifications completed over the last few
years as well. We are very fortunate to have such a
wonderful team that works for amazing outcomes for
your children at Holy Family. Congratulations to the
whole Rainbows team.
Enrolments for Rainbows
Whilst on Rainbows, Michelle informs me that numbers
for 2018 are filling quickly and limited spaces remain.
If you require care or know of someone who does,
please tell them to come and see us quickly so we can
guarantee a position.
Farewell to Bernie Kenwrick
Last week, Bernie Kenwrick informed me of her
decision to resign from Holy Family Catholic Primary
School at the end of the term. Bernie and her husband
have purchased a new caravan and are looking at a life
of leisure as they transition into retirement. Bernie has
been with us as a classroom support worker for over
Like the Green Tree Frog, I grow and change.
Like the Bush Bee,
I can work with others and on my own to be successful.
Like the Eagle, I see what I
need to do to achieve my
goal and take responsibility.
Like the Crocodile,
I can overcome challenges and keep
going when things get
tough.
Like the Dolphin, I am free to
develop my own ideas and take
risks.
Like the Green Ant, I use what I know and
what others know to
build meaning.
Like the Tata Lizard I can become a learning detective, searching
for answers or clues to my own or
others questions.
Learning Power Project
20 years and some parents in our school were actually supported by Bernie. Even though she leaves us on
Thursday, we will invite Bernie back early in Term 4 for a proper farewell that she deserves. We will advise you
of the farewell early in the term.
New Play Equipment
Through the work of Holy Family School Board, it
was decided that we needed to allocate funds to
purchase a new playground for our older
students. Three options were presented to the
school and the Year 4/5 class with Miss Jo were
tasked with the activity to recommend their
preferred option to Lorraine King (School Board
Chair) and me. Yesterday, they made their
recommendation and we are now working with
this company to put the proposal into reality. The
Year 4/5’s did an absolutely amazing job in
researching and presenting their findings. Even
though they all didn’t agree with the outcome,
they learnt much about such things as: safety
standards, percentages, GST and democracy
amongst other things. Thank you to them and
their teacher for their wonderful work in bringing together an option for us to move forward with. As a
footnote, after calling the successful contractor, I mentioned that even though they liked his design, they were
disappointed that there were no monkey bars. After speaking with Keith from Forpark, he then added the bars
free of charge. Again, well done to our amazing students in Year 4/5!
Updated Medical Plans
It has come to our attention that some of our current medical plans for students require updating. If you do
have a child on a plan, please make sure you call the front office to make sure the one we have is current.
Swimming
Our swimming carnival is this Friday from 9.00am at Casuarina Pool. It is always a terrific day and we invite
you to come and join us at some stage during the day. Please remember the following:
Apply sunscreen on your children before they come to school and make sure they have more to re-apply
during the day
That all students bring a hat and a ‘rashie’
That snacks are packed for the morning. Lunch will be at school as normal.
2018 Enrolments
Enrolments for 2018 are now being taken. If you have a child starting in Transition next year, please make
sure you speak to Shannon about obtaining enrolment forms. During Term 4, we will hold our Transition
Orientation for students beginning in 2018. An invitation is sent to the families who have enrolled. Also, if you
know of friends who are looking to enrol students at Holy Family, please ask them to call and make an
appointment to meet with me and I will happily talk about our vision for the school.
God Bless

AROUND THE SCHOOL...
What parents and carers can do to
help children feel included
Get to know other families, take an interest in
others’ different backgrounds as well as what you have in common
Set up a 'buddy system' where families who
have been at the school for a while buddy up with new families to provide welcome and support
Encourage children to include and appreciate
others’ cultural and individual differences
