A Message from Pastor Jason:
To the Faithful,
Several years ago, our family had a dog. With the help of our children, we named her “Beauty”. For
the most part, having Beauty as the family pet was a positive experience, and I would often spend time
with her in the parsonage lawn. As I did that, I learned some very interesting things about that dog and
the life of faith. The fact is, that dog was stuck like glue to me. Everywhere I’d go Beauty was not far
behind. She didn’t much care where I’d go, she just followed her master around. Sometimes I wanted
to say to her, "Hey, leave me alone. Don't you have something else to do?" Beauty didn’t care where
she was, she just wanted to be where her master was.
All this makes me think of John 12:26. Jesus says, "Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I
am My servant also will be." He's talking here about the central response of a follower of Jesus Christ.
Find out where my master is going and be there. Find out where my master is going and I'm going to
go there, too. Now this kind of allegiance to the Master's direction is what being a disciple is all about.
It's not just about having the right beliefs and going to the right meetings. You want to be where your
master is, as He wants to move deeper into your life.
That's why every morning He is supposed to be our starting point. Luke 9:23 says, "Take up your
cross daily and follow me." Each day as we get into His Word, we hold that book in our lap and say,
"Lord, show me what new ground You want to touch today," and then we want to be where Jesus is as
He's moving in the lives of those we love. We begin to look around at our mate, and what He's trying
to do in his or her life. We don't try to shape them in the way we want them to go. We follow where
our Master is going and contribute to what He's trying to do.
See, the key question we need to be asking is, "Where does Jesus seem to be going?" We seek out
God's agenda. We go with His flow and it becomes an exciting, dynamic process. We have to stay
flexible because we never know where the Master is going to go next. But then that's how Beauty fol-
lowed me around the yard isn't it? Wherever my master is, I will be there wherever that takes me.
In John 12:24 just before this, Jesus said that He would be lifted up to die for lost people. And I'll tell
you that if you're going to go where Jesus is going, pretty soon you'll be in the middle of reaching lost
people, because that's where Jesus is always going. I've learned a lot about being a disciple from
watching our dog. You see, a dog's big issue is basic; where is my master right now? … and so it is
with a disciple of Jesus. I just want to be where my Master is.
Following Him,
Pastor Jason

Thank You Notes... Women’s Book Club
The Women’s Book Club does
not meet during the summer
months. They are, however,
reading a series over the sum-
mer called “The Bregdan
Chronicles”.
These books are not available
in libraries, just on Kindle and
Amazon and there are 12 books
in the series.
The first of the 12 is Storm
Clouds Rolling In. Here is a
short description:
Carrie Cromwell comes of age as
the dark clouds of the Civil War
swallow the country. Born with a
fiery spirit and a strong mind, this
strong woman finds herself strug-
gling between the common wis-
dom of the South and the devas-
tating truth she has discovered.
The activities of the Underground
Railroad and her close friend-
ships with the Cromwell Planta-
tion slaves create agonizing
choices. But when her decisions
put her at odds with her heritage,
and challenge her dreams, will
she be able to give up all that is
precious to her? What price will
she be willing to pay?
For future note: book club in-
formation is always on the bul-
letin board by the library. If
your interested in joining
please get in touch with Kathy
Wimer and she can give you
more information.
Happy summer reading!
Hope you’ll join us in the fall!
Well, it’s the end of an era.
Our church mouse has left the
building and moved on to
greener and more relaxing pas-
tures (where I’m sure there
are more crumbs!)
Traditionally the church mouse
has recapped what has gone on
at the church over the past
month, but we’re certainly open
to suggestions for a new idea
of what he or she can bring to
the newsletter.
If you think you’d like to be-
come our new Church Mouse
and take over this column and
make it your own, please get in
touch with Barb Briggs in our
church office.
And many, many thanks to our
previous Church Mouse for
your dedication and for keeping
us all informed and amused!
Please be sure to let the office know if you have a
change in address, phone number, email, etc.
We want to be able to reach everyone in a timely
manner and can only do that if we have the correct
information. Thanks.
