THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF VICTORY VICTORIA, TEXAS AUGUUST 14, 2016 To be an authentic follower of Christ is to be subjected to criticism, misunder- standings and out- right disdain. Jesus tells us, as evident in the twelfth chapter of Saint Luke’s Gospel, which we read from this weekend, that division will come for those who follow Him: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accom- plished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” The division which comes to followers of Christ is not instituted by Christ, but a result of those who choose to follow Him. Peace will come when division is dissipated, but not until the Lord re- turns again, at the end of time. In the meantime, when we profess our faith and seek to live it, the world will be against us and Satan will relentlessly pursue us. Again, as Jesus states, “From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in- law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.” Let us not be afraid of the price which must be paid to follow Christ, for He has already paid the ultimate price for us. Division may surface in our lives, as a result of our choosing to follow Christ, but redemption is at hand. As Saint Maximillian Kolbe once wrote: “The most deadly poison of our times is indifference. And this happens, although the praise of God shall know no lim- its. Let us strive, therefore, to praise Him to the greatest extent of our powers.” Have a most blessed week with the Lord. THE CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY OF VICTORY VICTORIA, TEXAS AUGUUST 14, 2016

To be an authentic follower of Christ is to be subjected to criticism, misunder-standings and out-right disdain. Jesus tells us, as evident in

the twelfth chapter of Saint Luke’s Gospel, which we read from this weekend, that division will come for those who follow Him: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accom-plished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.”

The division which comes to followers of Christ is not instituted by Christ, but a result of those who choose to follow Him. Peace will come when division is dissipated, but not until the Lord re-turns again, at the end of time. In the meantime, when we profess our faith and seek to live it, the world will be against us and Satan will relentlessly pursue us. Again, as Jesus states, “From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Let us not be afraid of the price which must be paid to follow Christ, for He has already paid the ultimate price for us. Division may surface in our lives, as a result of our choosing to follow Christ, but redemption is at hand. Holy Land

Prayer & Encounter

January 23-February 3, 2017

Join Bishop Brendan Cahill on this pilgrimage to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

The Gospels and the Rosary come to Life as we visit Nazareth, Bethlehem, Cana, sail on the Sea of Galilee, Mt. Tabor, Jericho, and pray the Stations of the Cross in Jerusalem on the way to an early Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. On this very special pilgrimage with Bishop Cahill, there will be special op-portunities with Christian brothers and sisters, and learn how they are the “living stones” of the Holy Land. And, yes, you will take a dip in the Dead Sea too!
