A March-needed Break

Here’s a collation of events that took place in the month of March. One of the key highlights was Ren Ci being featured in a CNA-commissioned 2-episode documentary by AIC. You can spot snippets of Ren Ci

in episode 2, and sneak a peek into our new facility, Ren Ci Home @ Ang Mo Kio!

Great Wall of Collaboration

For the longest time, the stretch of wall at the linkway between Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Ren Ci

Community Hospital (CH) is left bare. This passageway is used regularly by staff of both hospitals, as well as

visitors to CH. Upon getting the ‘green light’ from TTSH, the Corp Comms team was tasked to make good use of

the great wall space. Since March, the linkway has been transformed into an art and photo gallery!

As we engage the community to enrich the lives of the

seniors under our care through the expression of arts, this

linkway wall will generate their sense of ownership through

creative empowerment and an avenue to showcase their

work. Essentially, the linkway wall offers opportunities to

recognise and stimulate the creative potentials of patients,

nursing home residents,

staff, artists, arts groups

and the community. The

wall makes a great

space and attracts the

most number of “eyeballs” views from staff and public. So, if you have a

message or campaign to shout out, you may want to consider this platform.

Contact the Corp Comms team @ ext. 6400.

Meanwhile, watch this space for more, as the linkway wall gets refreshed from

time to time, and be immersed in the creativity that comes out from our

collaboration with the community. Back to Top

Zumba Charity The Zumba team led by Ms Venus Wang returned to CH

this year on 18 March for the fourth round of high-

energy, dance fitness workout to celebrate the joy of

giving through Zumba moves. Together with four other

Zumba instructors, Venus enthusiastically led more than

200 participants to raise funds for Ren Ci Hospital,

whilst dancing to great Zumba hits. Venus also

managed to garner two other partners namely Isagenix Singapore (Asia-Pacific) Pte Ltd and Melilea International

as event sponsors. After nearly two hours of flaunting

power moves and sweating buckets, this Zumba charity

event successfully raised $3,831 for us!

Volunteers, Assemble

Organised by FRVD, leaders and

representatives of Ren Ci’s regular volunteer

groups attended a one-day workplan activity,

to devise and enhance volunteer activities

through Person Centred Care, on 25 March

2017. With sharing sessions by colleagues

from Nursing (Training & Education), SWC

as well as updates on Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio

by the AMKNH team, the participants better

understood and gained an insight on the

care model. All in all, it was a fruitful session,

and we can’t wait to see what’s in store as

our volunteer groups roll out and design

volunteering programmes to meet the needs

of the residents in Ren Ci.

People behind the P.E.R.S.O.N

On 27 March 2017, our colleagues from SWC invited everyone to the Social Workers’ Day party, themed after

P.E.R.S.O.N, which stands for:

Perspective Empathy Resources Story Opportunities Needs

The showcase of P.E.R.S.O.N was conveyed through skits, Q&As and video clips, of how MSWs see a person, as well as paid tribute to many residents who have shared their lives with us. The party ended with 22 of the MSWs jamming to their signature Dikir Barat

performance, with a twist and to the melody of National Day song, “Home”. The lyrics were specially composed by MSW Nur Sahara Kamsani, to further emphasize the message of P.E.R.S.O.N. We can see how wonderful the people behind this team/theme, as fellow colleagues brought sweet gifts aplenty to the party.

Part of the Community that Cares

Everyone has a place in our community, including the elderly and frail who

should be assisted to age-in-place with dignity. As a major provider in the

intermediate and long-term care (ILTC) sector, Ren Ci believes in having a

“community of care” to support individuals, especially the seniors, to lead

an active, independent and fulfilling life at home and within an assisted care

facility like nursing homes.

Our CEO, Ms Loh Shu Ching, shared her views with Lifewise, a publication

from National Healthcare Group, on the challenges to meet the increasing

needs of our elderly community.

Ageing Well, an AIC Documentary

Over the last few months, AIC has worked with Channel

NewsAsia (CNA) to produce a two-episode documentary titled

“Ageing Well”. It aims to educate and raise awareness of the

various community care options available that can support

seniors to age-in-place.

Ren Ci was approached to be part of the second episode,

“Ageing Well: A New Place to Call Home”, which focuses on

the nursing homes who support seniors with health conditions

that cannot be supported at home. This episode showcases

how some nursing homes in Singapore are improving the

quality of care. For Ren Ci’s segment, filming was done at

NHM, as well as AMKNH.
