The barwell ECO range of high performance, low investment, energy and cost saving Ram Extrudersand Preformers are specifically designed for theaccurate and efficient processing of rubber and synthetic polymer compounds across multiple industries.

• A versatile and high quality processing systemensuring most types of compound can be processedto produce consistent and accurate product

• An operator-friendly system that requires minimal user training which increases production capability

• An energy-saving method of production whichsignificantly reduces power consumption

• A cost-cutting solution which reduces factory space, material wastage and labour costs

• Complete processing flexibility combining extrusion, cutting and check weighing all in one machine

• A robust, safe and reliable system of processingenabling easy maintenance

How does the ECO work? The basic principle of the ECO range is to extrudethe prepared compound by means of a hydraulicallypowered ram. The rate of the extrusion is monitoredby a digital flow valve and this permits the operatorto select precisely the rate at which the rubber isextruded.

An inverter controlled variable speed cutter (onPreformers) is located on the head of the machineand the extrudate is cut at the die face so variationsin die swell do not affect the volumetric accuracyof the preforms.

Processing Flexibility

The ECO range is capable of processing most typesof compound, including:

• Silicone • NBR • FKM

• CR • HNBR • ACM

• EPDM • SBR • EVA

Why choose the barwell ECO?Ram extrusion and preforming is a proven technologyand adopted by hundreds of rubber factories through-out the world providing complete peace of mind ontheir investment.

Low investment with quick returnThe ECO range is ideally suited tocompanies requiring a low investmentwithout having to sacrifice quality, accuracy andproductivity. A very quick pay back is normally ensuredthrough material and labour savings alone.

Highly accurate and consistent productionThe ECO range can produce consistent target blankweight with accuracy of up to +/- 1% by volume*.As well as reducing scrap rate, they allow processorsgreater ability to realise product development plans.

Improved product quality and processing flexibilityPreforms are better profiled to fit the mould cavityhelping to reduce flash and improve flow. Even threedimensional preforms can be produced.

ECO has better tolerance to faster accelerators thanother methods, as there is no heat build-up during the extrusion process.

The ECO has the capability to produce one-piecepreforms to prevent joint weakness. This is particularly beneficial to manufacturers of ‘O’ rings.

ECO machines also allow for simultaneous screening.During extrusion, with many compounds, meshescan be fitted to remove material contaminationor impurities.

A cost cutting and sustainable methodDramatic savings can be achieved whencombining extruding, cutting and checkweighing all in one machine. Space andpower savings are significant as the ECOrange consumes a fraction of the powerand occupies only a small amount of floor spaceif compared to alternative methods.

With reduced labour and wastage costs (there are nooff-cuts or trimmings as with stamping methods) it iseasy to see why the ECO range is so attractive toprocessors.

Ease of operation and reduced downtimeThe simple design of the ECO allows foreasy installation, operation and maintenance, ensuring that the machineperforms to its full potential. Its robustconstruction and simplicity keeps potentialdowntime to a minimum meaningproduction is maintained.

Extruder or Preformer?A Preformer offers all the benefits of an extruderbut is supplied with a high specification cuttingmodule unit.

ECO or ECO PLUS?The ECO PLUS is a premium model giving theprocessor greater flexibility for bespokerequirements, as well as, enhanced usability due tosimpler controls. Set-up is also quicker due to a2000 product database and an auto cycle option. It also provides faster operation.

ECO H-seriesA high pressure option - ideal for use with toughmaterials or when high quality filtering is required.

• Small colour screen

• Multiple language support

• Touch panel manual input data

• RS232 connection to weigh scales

• Variable AC inverter controlled cutter• Speeds up to 400 cuts per minute • Powerpack hydraulics with proportional flow control• Standard operating pressure of 210 bar (3000 psi)• Weigh scale feedback loop for blank weight control• Accuracy of up to +/- 1% by volume*• Cut to length (pulse cut) facility• Available in batch sizes from 1 to 80 litres• Front loading

Optional extras• 240 bar (3500 psi)• 800 cuts per minute cutter option• Extended centre• Rear loading version• Reserving conveyor• Die face conveyor• Two range gearbox for low and high torque cutting• H-series for higher operating pressure• Barcode reader option

What is it?A system to ensure consistent and accurate blankweight with minimal operator input.

The machine operator enters the “TARGET” blankweight required on the HMI screen. The operatoralso enters the required cutter speed and valvesetting.

When the preformer is started, the operator willplace a preformed blank on the weigh scales, ifthe preformed blank weight does not correspondwith the “TARGET” weight, the operator simplypresses a button on the weigh scales and this willautomatically adjust the cutter speed to bring theblank to the required “TARGET” weight. The operator has to make no physical changes to themachine settings.

This new and improved upgrade will ensure thatwaste compound is now reduced to a minimum.

The Weigh Scale Loop System is now standard onall ECO machines.

ECO PLUS additional features• 8” TFT visible colour screen• 2000 product database on removable

“Flash memory”• Manual and automatic cycle• Password level protection• Prompt and error messages• Alarm history (for faults)• Extended centre as standard• Reversing conveyor as standard• Pressure 240 bar (3500 psi) as standard on

barwell ECO Technical Data

Notes All above data is based on the Prefomer option being selected and is calculated with the machine being run under recommended operating conditions. Contact us to discuss any special requirements or if you require an Extruder. Due to the diversity of processing, material and screening requirements, results cannot be given on the H-series. It is recommended that tests are conducted during the machine specification stage to ensure that the machine will meet your requirements. Barwell recommends that as much information as possible is given before any purchase to ensure that the most appropriate machineis specified. Developed to meet an increasing demand fromthe rubber industry for machines capable of processing tough or special materials at production rates that are not achievable with thestandard range of Barwell Preformers.

At 350 bar (5000 psi) it can have up to 6 times moreoutput than a standard 210 bar (3000 psi) machine.

This requirement has become more importantwhere screening or filtering of materials is essential to reduce or eliminate contaminationand remove impurities within the material.Although screening or filtering of materials hasalways been possible with any Barwell machine, the effect of this was to reduce outputs tosometimes unacceptable levels.

The H-series, with its increased compoundextrusion pressure up to 350 bar (5000 psi) overcomes this restriction and allows productiondemands to be met without compromise.

Higher Output The chart indicates the potential increases for various materials, although actual rates for aspecific product would need to be clearly defined through material testing and subject to die size andwhether screening is applied or not.
