    A Lesson Courtesy of Arbys

Scripture Thought for the Week:So now finish doing it as well, so that yourreadiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have.

English Standard Version (ESV)2 Corinthians 8:11On our recent travels, Gary and I stopped at an Arbys to grab a quick bite to eat. As we

sat down with our meals, I happen to look at a poster that was hung on the wall next to our

table. Entitled, Get it Done, here was what followed:

    Dream Big

    Work Hard

    Play Fair

    Have Fun

    Make a Difference

Continuing to gaze and ponder these words, I finally reached for a napkin and pen and

began to jot done the simple instructions. They seemed to be sending a more powerful

message than what was intended upon a first reading. For the next few weeks I am going

to be discussing each one of the instructions and explore their message from a Christian

perspective. It is my belief that we dont expand our minds to include diverse ways toserve our awesome and powerful Lord. When we raise our children we often ask, What

would you like to be when you grow up? Then as they are deciding on a college major we

once again pose the question, What would you like to study and devote your career? The

world is before them and the opportunities are limitless! Do we consider the manner in

which we serve God has far more limitless possibilities?

What exactly does it mean to Get it Done? Does it include being urged by employers,

friends, loved ones and mainly our own self determination to get tasks accomplished in a

timely fashion? Is it a personal project, one for the boss, or possibly simple duties such as

cleaning the house, washing clothes or getting the car serviced? Other than the regular

acts of attending church, reading the Bible and praying what else might we be available to

do for the One who gives us everything?

Dissecting the title of this lesson; can we glean important hints from the phrase Get it

Done that will benefit our physical and spiritual lives? First, lets define the words; to

getis to gain possession of; to obtain; or to seize. This act might take a moment or it

might envelope years, but you must actively engage and focus your attitude to seize the

goal before you. The itis the goal. More specifically the it can be a project, a task, or

something that needs to be learned or accomplished. Donefinds itself in the checkedoff column. Once a task is accomplished we can comment it has been brought tocompletion.

For example, after ten years of college classes both part and full time, I was able to

obtain my elementary degree. It was a goal worth attaining, but one filled with many

momentary doubts along the way. The get was to seize a teaching degree, the it was

the degree and the done was receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. Was my degree

accomplished in a timely fashion? Not by the standards of a society that is motivated by

multi-taking and harried schedules. However, I knew that if I didnt keep my eye on the

goal and continue to work hard, I would never return to college to complete the task at

    hand.

So how do we apply the get it done phrase to our spiritual lives? As Christians who know

the Lord Jesus as personal Savior our get is the Great Commission as given in Matthew

28:19-20, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of

the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I

have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. The

it is witnessing to others about Jesus, sharing our personal stories of Gods grace andhopefully bringing the sheaves of souls into the storehouse of Gods eternal plan. And the

done is doing the best we can in these physical bodies to accomplish the plan God has

purposed for our lives until He calls us home.

Is being a stellar witness for Jesus an issue of urgency? I would have to answer in a

positive and resounding YES! Life is fragile and we do not own the birds-eye-view of Gods

plan. So, my friends, whatever God has called you to do, GET IT DONE!

Father, thank you that when we are traveling and visiting various eateries, you canspeak through a seemingly generic poster! May the following five weeks bring glory to

you by aiding us in exploring how we can grow spiritually by using simple instructions

received from an Arbys poster! Nothing goes to waste in Gods economy! In Jesus

    name, Amen!
