A2 Media Studies – MS3For this component you are required to undertake an individual investigation into a specific area of study focused on one of the following concepts: genre, narrative or representation.

The research should draw on a range of both primary and secondary sources.

It should enable you to reach conclusions that will inform your production work.

Example Research Titles: Genre An investigation into how genre conventions are used to raise audience expectations in two/three film trailers. An investigation into the British social realist genre. An investigation into neo-noir.

Narrative An analysis of the narrative structure of two/three contrasting trailers. An analysis of the narrative structure of two thrillers through examination of the ending sequences. Exploring the narrative structure and editing techniques of the thriller film.

Representation The representation of male teens in crime films. Examining the representation of women in crime films. How are social issues represented in the ‘rights of passage’ film? An exploration of the representation of the disaffected young man in British films. The representation of masculinity in post modern films.
