Transcript of A Guide to Net Making
Introduction
This guide enables one to make a simple netconstruction, that provides solutions to practicaland fantastical needs. A net is a multi-function,permeable, portable surface that reroutes andreapplies movement.
Hozitional use : Bridging, Blocking, Reclining Vertical use: Access and DenialTool use: Holding and Trapping

Components
The Netting Knot
Peg BoardUsed to ensure continuity of the net cell sizes and to hold rope in posi-tion at the knots. We recommend a net cell size of 15cm by 15cm forclimbing. Measure out, and mark two cells across. Hammer nails through& turn board over. The nails will act as the holding pegs, file off points ifare sharp.
The Netting Knot is the fundamental construction element to net building.Follow example pictures step by step; tighten knot by pulling all points.
The Fisherman’sKnot
Used when more ropeneeds to be added.Add more rope whenat the sides of the net,for a cleaner overalllook.
Once completed firstknot repeat the stepsbut direct the tail endin other direction
pull to tighten.
Construction Have a task and installment area in mind; measure size of installmentarea or esitmate reqiured size for task; divide into cell size (15 by 15) toget number of cells across and down. Keep record of calculations andassess progress by cell numbers .
Gather & tie rope intoneedle shape.
Use peg board guides, make first cell and tiefirst knot. Tighten knot aroundthe peg.
Double back and tieknot to proceed to nextcell.
Reposition peg board, make cell and tie
Repeat until at nextedge, then doubleback and tie knotagain. Then work wayback to other end.
The process is contin-uosly repeated.
When you have cor-rect number cellsacross cast off by dou-ble backing at edgeand tieing down.

InstallingWhen installing, ensure that the area is fit tohold and take weight. Only use equipment thatproduces strength greater than required. A rope line is to be weaved around the net bor-der to support weight distribution. On first install, the net should be secured byslowly tightening and tieing to ensure the netdoes not warp. The tighting of the net will tightenall knots further into place.
