Who we are:
EARTHWORKS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from the impacts of irresponsible mineral and energy development while seeking sustainable solutions.
EARTHWORKS Oil & Gas Accountability Project - OGAP
Case Studies From the Sacrifice Zone
Dish, Texas
• 16 chemicals above the state screening levels.
• 61% of residents’ health effects match effects associated with chemicals detected in air.
Case Studies From the Sacrifice Zone
Argyle and Bartonville, Texas
• 61% of residents’ health effects match effects associated with chemicals detected in air.
• 65 chemicals detected on high school band field.
• 501 emission events in one year from one facility averages 1.37/day.
Case Studies From the Sacrifice Zone
Eagle Ford Shale
• 61% of residents’ health effects match effects associated with chemicals detected in air.
Earthworks has collected decades of anecdotal health impacts from across the nation and in Canada.
There are no epidemiologic studies nor any systematic registry to track these complaints.
Loopholes mean pollution goes unaccounted for.
Public Health and Safety is at Risk
“…the scientific information for the public health impacts of high-volume hydraulic fracturing has yet to be gathered.”

Grassroots Perspective
• The impacts are not few and not isolated. • Opposition increases exponentially as development
expands.• Security—economic or national—is not gained by
sacrificing the health and long term well being of families. • States are failing to protect the public.• Scientific proof that fracking is safe does not exist.• There are no mythical economic benefits that outweigh
clean air and water and healthy communities.
We shouldn’t be conscripting families into a political war over gas supplies, poisoning them as we do so.
States, like Texas and Colorado and Pennsylvania, are refusing to protect the public, so local communities are taking matters into their own hands. The growing the strength of opposition to fracking calls into question its long term reliability.
