Are you ready? Ready for a fun-filled, fund-

raising season? Well, it’s just about to get

underway!

Our opening tea is scheduled for Wednesday,

September 13th at 2 pm. Thanks to the

generosity of THE ISLAND HOUSE, we have

access to a lovely, scenic venue overlooking the

Stono River. (See the box to the lower right for

address and directions). Put on your fanciest

chapeaux and come to the country to enjoy

refreshments and hear all about upcoming

happenings.

October 1 is our first Revels event. This year’s

calendar of programs offers a wide variety of

activities and, I predict, there will be at least one

event to attract your attention. The CSOL® 2017-

18 schedule (as we know it today) is on the last

page of this Keynotes; in addition, you’ll be

receiving your Revels brochure in the mail.

October 22 is a fundraiser for The David and

Karen Stahl Scholarship. It’s a lollapalooza

event: Paella Party, Sippin’ Sangria on the

Stono for Scholarships. The very authentic

paella will be prepared by CSO first trumpet,

Tony Marti followed by entertainment performed

by Tony and his father, Lucio (who is coming

from Spain for this occasion). This fundraiser will

be held at THE ISLAND HOUSE on John’s

Island from 5 pm to 8 pm..

The generosity of the folks at THE ISLAND

HOUSE is overwhelming and we’ll be forever

grateful as they’re allowing us to host not

one, but two very special events.

We should soon have our new and updated

website fully functional. It will enable us to do so

much more online and will make our members’

lives easier. Stay tuned for the introduction.

Our new logo and tag line is showing up everywhere. (Just look at the top of Keynotes).

From L to R: Mazda Sales Consultant Chuck Meyer, CSOL® Co-

Chair Claudia Por ter, General Manager Mike Evans, Nancy and Bill

Evans.

The culmination of the CSOL® car raffle – a presentation of a red Mazda Miata – to lucky

winners Bill and Nancy Blume on June 20 at the

Stokes Mazda dealership. 782 tickets were sold

and $36,400 was made on the car raffle. Thanks

to all who participated.

Picture this scene: Chef Tony Marti (CSO first chair trumpet) is stirring the huge paella pans while you’re looking forward to hearing his father, Lucio Marti entertain on the keyboard using his repertoire of dance music and easy listening tunes. You’re also sipping sangria or Spanish wine, enjoying the scenery along the banks of the Stono River under a huge tent at the Island House on Johns Island. As the sun sets at 6:30 p.m., you’ll take your first mouthful of authentic paella. Bliss.

When you join us on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, you’ll be supporting a noteworthy benefit for the David and Karen Stahl Memorial Music Scholarship. As usual, without the support of our CSOL®

members, sponsors and friends, it would be very difficult to achieve our goal of funding $2500 for the David and Karen Stahl scholarship. The bonus: Enjoy a great party celebrating the accomplishments of the CSOL® Education Committee and the talented young musicians we’ve nurtured over the years. We hope you’ll join us for the evening -- it’s sure to be spectacular.

T ickets are $60 per person.

Please send your check made out to CSOL ® and marked

Volunteers are a special breed – not everyone wants to donate their time, for even a great cause. Round of

Applause is acknowledgement by President Kitty Reid to honor CSOL® volunteers.

David Savard: It’s hard to shine a spotlight on David because he’s always in motion – think the Energizer Bunny. He’s always on the go and (hardly ever) says no. As the Communications Chair on the CSOL® Board, David is an inventive problem solver (he is an engineer, after all) and has a gift for graphic design. If you admire the professionalism of our event programs, rack cards and posters, Keynotes newsletter, or website, you have David to thank. He’s also an inspired pianist – you’ve seen him at Designer Showhouses over the years and admired his musicality. Thank you, David: You do the work of many, with a smile on your face.

The CSOL® is pleased to welcome our newest members.
