GLOBAL COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

The reach of our community has

grown to stretch across a broad

cross-section of UK industry

In spite of all the doom and gloom

in the United Kingdom and

Europe, demand for their skills has

continued to increase over the

past four years

At the end of 2011, demand levels

remained 13% above the long

term average

While there is ongoing demand

for their skills, their desire to

return home remains strong

WANT TO COME BACK

What is abundantly clear is

most of our expat community

would like to return home

While the pull of being closer to

family and friends is strong, it is

going to take more than a lower

paying job to get many of them

back

The number of NZ expats

wanting to return has fallen

from 90% to 83% over the past

couple of years

83.0% 17.0%

Would you consider returning or relocating to New Zealand?

Would you invest any of your foreign capital in New Zealand?

Yes No Maybe

Like the desire to live in New

Zealand, investment interests are

also strong

Two thirds of our community would

invest in New Zealand, while

another quarter would consider it

It is worth noting that more than a

quarter of the value of their foreign

assets are held in cash

With a significant portion of

foreign assets providing

negligible returns, why is more

not invested in New Zealand?

Given that the desire to live in New

Zealand is strong, it should come as

no surprise that interest in buying

residential property is also strong

Many of our community have

started to accumulate a reasonable

overseas asset-base in anticipation

of buying a property on returning on

home

The cumulative value of overseas

assets held by our community is

starting to become substantial

VALUE OF OVERSEAS ASSETS

Returning expats offer more than

just an injection of talent and a

global perspective

For those of our community that

have been in the UK for more than

one year, we estimate average net

foreign assets per individual to

equate to nzd$165,475

Our expat community are more

than just jobseekers, they are

economic migrants that would
