Fr. Carl's Thoughts & Reflections Fifth Sunday of Easter - April 29, 2018
Last Week on Good Shepherd Sunday we had 31 Second Graders receive their First Communion. The church was full of families, relatives and friends who joined in the celebration wholeheartedly. It was a wonderful celebration of God’s love in sending us Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who gives us his Body
and Blood for our nourishment. We are thankful to Jesus for His love, and to God who sent Jesus into our world to be our Savior and Spiritual nourishment. We also want to thank and congratulate our parents, teachers, and religious ed coordinator. Finally we have a week of warmer weather, with no freezing mornings forecast for us. Now we can begin to plant our vegetable gardens and flower beds, still realizing that we are not safe from frost until Mother’s Day, May 13, which is also the Feast of the Ascension. Our garden is now ready for planting!
Please keep our Confirmation students in your prayers during their Confirmation retreat today, as they prepare for receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit at the hands of Archbishop Thompson on May 20. Thanks to their teachers and sponsors who are helping them prepare. Don’t forget to sign up in the back of Church for our Traveling Vocation Crucifix, so that your family may spend a week in prayer for Vocations to minister in the Church, especially as priests, deacons, sisters, or brothers. This is Vocations Awareness Month, and it is important for all of us to pray for more vocations.
Our Scriptures this weekend are all about
becoming Jesus’ disciples, as St. Paul did
after his conversion. Jesus is the vine, His
Father is the vine grower, and we are the
branches; we can bear fruit only if we are
connected to Jesus, the source of our
strength. We show that we are connected
to Jesus by how we obey the
commandments and are open to being
converted by Jesus, as St. Paul was.
Have a blessed Fifth Week of Easter! Fr. Carl
