PROBLEM STATEMENT• Education System in the MENA region:
– have still not adapted education systems with new technologies.– “Quality of primary education in the MENA region is still below the standards in
developed nations”. – “MENA countries can learn firsthand through the best practices of these other
countries that transparency of higher education systems is critical to increasing the quality of higher education in the region”.
– Comparatively low quality.
– Capacity of workers to innovate or adopt new technologies.– Lack a strong collaboration and cooperation work which would allow them to
share experiences, ideas, resources.
• Research Question : "Why is the cooperation and collaboration in the MENA region so weak,
especially in the sector of engineering and sciences fields in higher education?"
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
1. Help to characterize the higher education system in the MENA
region, especially in the engineering and sciences fields.
2. Determine the degree of collaboration and cooperation in the
MENA region in online labs fields.
3. Create a federation of online labs for serving the MENA region in
engineering and sciences fields.

DISSERTATION STATUS (2/2)
Direction One: (100%) Study VISIR
• Why VISIR?• Activities VISIR• Visualize System (UML)
Direction Two: (65%-70%) Online Labs Federation
Direction Three: (35%-40%)Community of Practice around
Online Labs
Online Labs Federation
CURRENT AND EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS (1/2)
• W’s and H Ideas: Why, Who, What, Where, When, and How?– Why does the higher education
system in MENA region need to reshape?
– How can we assist the higher education system in the MENA region?
– When will the MENA region be able to begin to reshaping their education system?
– Where must we start to use the new technologies? Which fields are more priority?
– What kind of technologies can be used for assisting higher education students? for what purpose?
– Who is going to benefit from use the online laboratories technology?
Where do ideas come from?
CURRENT AND EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS (2/2)
Expected Contributions• Overall Goal: Students are performing more experiments relevant to their
field of study.
• Online Labs: – Save time and money;– Allow students to develop the technical skills necessary for their jobs in the future;– Contribute to the quality of higher education in the MENA region.
• Online Labs Federation: – It can help to improve their education systems by using online laboratories technology.
• Community of Practice: – Share the experiments and resources;– Collaboration and cooperation work among MENA researchers.
• Finally, the goals are simple but ambitious.
