A Familiar Face In a New Place RTC has seen a change this year. Mrs. Paeth, who was a familiar face at school last year, is our new RTC coordinator. Mrs. Paeth worked at Bangor Central last year as a special education aide. This year finds her in RTC helping students make responsible choices and make plans for their success. Mrs. Paeth has two children at Bangor Central. Luke is in third grade and Alicen is in first grade. She is also one of the leaders of the Boy Scout troop at Bangor Central. We welcome her to his new position and are excited to have her in this new role. We Can Achieve Our Dreams! School will dismiss at 2:31. The district early release days are an opportunity for our elementary staffs to meet for professional development and school improvement planning. This is one more way we can collaborate to make our district the best it can be. NWEA This week and next we will be doing our NWEA math and reading assessments. The NWEA is an on-line assessment that gives us valuable information about where students are performing, and what areas we need to target instruction. As the year progresses, it will also show us the growth students have made in reading and math. Please encourage your child to do his or her best.

A Familiar Face In a New Place

RTC has seen a change this year. Mrs. Paeth, who was a familiar face at school last year, is our new RTC coordinator. Mrs. Paeth worked at Bangor Central last year as a special education aide. This year finds her in RTC helping students make responsible choices and make plans for their success.

DHS  Parthership    DHS  (the  Department  of  Human  Services)  and  Bangor  Central  have  begun  a  partnership  this  school  year  to  help  serve  the  children  and  families  of  Bangor  Central.  The  program  is  call  Pathways  to  Potential  with  a  focus  on  five  key  factors:    Attendance/Chronic  absenteeism                                    Safety              Education        Health            Self  Sufficiency  

37%  of  Michigan  students  were  chronically  absent  (defined  as  greater  than  10  days  per  year)  in  the  2012-­‐2013  school  year.  Our  goal  is  to  reduce  absenteeism  and  offer  assistance  to  help  all  of  the  students  at  Bangor  Central  succeed  and  attend  school  every  day.  DHS  offers  the  following  programs:    Food  Assistance,  Medical  Assistance  (Medicaid),  Child  Day  Care  (to  assist  with  paying  for  daycare),  and  State  Emergency  Relief  (assistance  with  utility  shut  offs  and  housing  issues).  If  you  feel  you  could  benefit  from  any  of  these  programs  please  visit  www.michigan.gov/mibridges  for  further  information.  Eligibility  varies  from  program  to  program  and  is  based  on  factors  such  as  household  size,  income  limits  and  asset  limits.       If  you  currently  have  a  student  attending  Bangor  Central  or  Bangor  Lincoln  and  have  a  case  with  DHS,  your  caseworker  is  Mrs.  Rosebrock  and  she  is  stationed  at  Bangor  Central  every  other  week  and  at  Bangor  Lincoln  on  the  opposite  week.  You  can  reach  her  by  phone  at  989-­‐225-­‐1309  or  email  at  [email protected]
