A DISCIPLING, LOVING COMMUNITY, SERVING JESUS CHRIST...

Dear Friends, As we move into end of the first quarter of the year we have really started with a lot of excitement and joy as we see our church growing not only physically but also spiritually. Our Expo on Sunday 18 th February was a wonderful testimony to the many ministries active in our church and in the city which we partner with. I would really encourage you to make contact with the ministry leaders so that they can direct you towards getting involved in our church. I really trust that the Believe series has been helping you to think, act and be more like Jesus. We have also been very blessed to have Kerri Ann on board and she has already been such a gift to us. Our Childrens Church and Youth work are thriving this year and activities are constantly allowing young people to have the opportunity for fun and fellowship. We have a bubble making machine which was such fun at the picnic after the Expo on Sunday. Our other exciting news is that Ryno Grobbelaar will be joining our staff as a Worship Leader, working together with the existing groups in the church. We are blessed to have his expertise in worship and sound and are looking forward to his leadership. We are sad to be saying goodbye to Reuben and Rachel as they leave for the UK at the end of June. Rachel will be completing her studies and Reuben will be working as a Youth Pastor in an Anglican Church. We are trusting that the Lord is leading us to a new team to lead the Youth and so please pray with us about this. As we prepare our hearts to remember the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, my prayer is that you will find opportunities of deep prayer and meditation around the narrative of this season of our church calendar. May you have the space and time to reflect on the journey to the cross and the gift of this season. Blessings and prayers, Peter A DISCIPLING, LOVING COMMUNITY, SERVING JESUS CHRIST. MARCH 2018 We have had an awesome start to 2018 here at Youth. In January we had a really great leaders camp in Wilderness. This year on the Leadership Track we have 9 leaders, 3 girls and 6 boys and they are all incredible. Matthew, Adrienne, Jordan, Gareth, Gary, Eric, Mikayleigh, Kahleah and Tyler. We are so blessed to have such an awesome team. In February we had our Primary and High School dedications, both were a great success. Our theme for this year was "Run the race". It was a time to encourage our school leaders to run the race, to fulfil all that God has for them this year. Coming up in March we have our Youth Camp. Always a highlight of the year, the Youth Camp is a chance to get away. A chance to spend time with friends, have some fun and engage with God in deeper ways. We are camping at Carmel this year and it is set to be a great weekend. Please keep us in your prayers for the camp and for the work God has for us this year. Rachel and Reuben Sunday 4 th February We welcomed over 300 Primary school leaders from all over George into the sanctuary for a special dedication ser- vice. They stood tall with not only their families but also their teachers. Thank you Peter for a beautiful message on running the race God has already planned for you and choosing to run with Him. So often we think we need to run this race on our own strength. It was lovely to see the parents, teachers and friends of these leaders stand around them and pray for them. I even received a call to go and visit one of the schools for an assembly again. I love that God opens doors for us to go and spread His love and message. The long awaited GMC Women’s Retreat took place on the weekend of 10/11 February at Carmel Guest Lodge. It was a wonderful event !!! The title ‘Breathe’ came to Debbie after experiencing a busy Christmas season and she felt God inspired her to lead the ladies of the congregation in a much needed time out with Him to

just… Breathe… Consequently almost 70 ladies

signed up for fun, fellowship and time to ‘breathe’ in Him.

Michell van Heerden - Steward

We are delighted to welcome the following 3 wonderful people to our

GMC leadership team. We ask that you keep them in your prayers.

WHO’S WHO?

Deborah Watson - Steward

Ryno Grobbelaar - Worship Pastor

Michell, an accountant and mother to two gorgeous kids joined GMC af-

ter her daughter, Monya, was invited to Youth. She says “I just fell in love

with the people and the sense of family.”

A big passion of hers is ‘worship.’ Saying “There is no greater joy than

standing on stage and seeing how people are transformed by the Holy

Spirit while they worship.”

Her reason for wanting to be a steward is that although she has gone

through a lot of heartache God sent angels her way to help her through.

“I know how important it is to know that you are not alone and that is why

I want to serve the people of GMC. I want to help create a ‘home’ where

broken people can find healing, lonely people can find family and where

people just get a sense of belonging.”

An unexpected visit from a friend convinced Deborah and her husband Craig to move,

with their boys, to George. That same friend then impacted her faith journey and

through friends she started attending GMC.

Deborah, previously a nurse, not only works full time at an IT supply company but also

started a non profit called ‘The 100s Club’ and volunteers for Anchor Your Life. Her sense

of humour means she is able to talk to anyone, ‘it breaks the ice but may also land me

in hot water sometimes’ she says :)

When asked about her role as steward she said “It is a great honour to be able to serve

the church that welcomed me in at a time when I wasn’t in a great ‘mind space.’ I am

thankful for an opportunity to help where I can. I look forward to making new, long

lasting friendships and to make Jesus' proud.”

Ryno believes God called him to be at GMC as everything he’d been praying for has fallen into place. He’s both passionate about worship and his family. He and his beautiful wife Shareese have a 7 year old daughter, Zelany, and a baby boy., Joshua, on the way. Ryno is also involved in music outside of church as he plays at local restaurants and teaches guitar. Ryno is excited to join our team and to lead worship sharing “God has placed an anointing on my life in terms of leading worship (and) I know God has something BIG in store.”
