System Operation

Using the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)generator to power motors in the mainwheels, EGTS allows aircraft to taxi andpushback fully autonomously withoutrequiring the use of aircraft engines.

Two of the main wheels are equipped with anelectric motor, while unique power electronicsand system controllers give pilots totalcontrol of the aircraft’s speed and directionduring taxi operations.

With operating costs and environmentalinitiatives at the top of airline concerns, EGTS provides a viable solution to achievelower cost and greener operations. Byadopting this new and innovative aircraft system, airlines can save severalhundred thousand dollars per aircraft peryear and improve their bottom line whilereducing the environmental impact of airportground operations.

• Lower Fuel Burn Today’s taxi operations for the globalshorthaul fleet can burn as much as fivemillion tons of fuel per year. EGTS can result in savings of up to 4% of total blockfuel budget, or on average $250,000savings per aircraft per year.

• Improved On Time Performance Aircraft equipped with the system will beable to “pushback and go” more quickly,thus reducing both gate and aproncongestion, improving on-time departureperformance and saving valuable time onthe ground.

• Greener Operations EGTS offers up to 75% in carbonemission reductions and up to 50%reduction in NOx emissions during airporttaxiing operations.

• Added Value System operation eliminates the need foraircraft pushback and towing via groundequipment, extending main engine life,enhancing ground crew safety, andreducing noise in the airport environment.
