Venus Unveiled is a journey to the surface of Venus. When NASA’s Mariner 2 spacecraft orbited Venus in 1962, it found the planet’s surface obscured by a dense atmosphere of carbon dioxide and sulphuric acid. In May 1989, the Magellan spacecraft began a four-year mission to map the planet’s surface by radar. Now, Sony High-Definition technology and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory have created a collection of computer-rendered images that reveal the dramatic beauty of this mysterious planet. A velvet worm has nozzles that fire streams of glue to ensnare prey. Pistol shrimps use their claws as sonic weapons. Mantis shrimps spear their food or smash it with heavily calcified clubs.
