Common Terminology

Blackjack: Also the name of the game, a Blackjack is when a players original two cards are a ten value and an ace. A Blackjack pays 3-2, which is half the bet plus the bet. EX. A Blackjack on $10 will pay $15. Half of $10 is $5, plus the original bet of $10 equals a payout of $15.

Insurance: Insurance is asked when the dealers face up card is an ace. Insurance is a separate bet you can make in the hand. It does not affect the cards in play or the hand itself. Essentially you are betting on if the dealer has a Blackjack or not. If you bet insurance and the dealer has Blackjack you will receive 2-1 on the money bet, you can only bet up to half of your original bet

Hit: “Hit” is the expression used to take an additional card. After saying “hit” you are prompted to slap the table proving to the dealer and surveillance that you truly wanted another card.

Stand: Stand is exactly that, if you “stay” or “stand”, the decision you have made is to not take another card and to stay with your current total. After saying “stay” or “stand” you are prompted to wave your hand over the table proving to the dealer and surveillance that you truly did not want another card.

Double Down: To double down is to place any amount up to your original bet, directly beside it for one additional card. In Blackjack you can only do this on your first two cards. Your one additional card will be placed horizontally to signify the double down.

Split: To split is the option given when your first two cards are the same value. If you choose to split you place the same amount of your original bet directly beside it. The dealer then creates two hands, dividing the two cards into two separate hands with the two separate bets. If the second card on the first hand is the same card again, you have the option to split again. You are allowed to split up to 4 times (unless you have split aces, in which case you may only split once, and you will only receive one card for each ace). Also, you can double down on a split if so desired. (Ex. Your original two cards are 8 and 8 (total 16), split is an option. Your original two cards are King and Queen (total 20), split is an option. (Two cards of the same Value.)

A Soft Hand: A soft hand is any amount of cards paired with an ace that creates two optional totals. Remember the ace can either be 1 or 11. A soft hand cannot bust. (Ex. You have an ace and a 5; you either have 6 or 16.)

Push: A push, also known as a tie happens when a player has the same end total as the dealer. A push results in neither win nor loss.

Surrender: Some Casino’s allow this in Blackjack, but for Spanish it is always an option. After receiving your first 2 cards you have the option to surrender your hand. Meaning you will forfeit half your wager and take half back.

Bust: To bust is to go over 21. When the player busts they lose their bet. When the dealer busts all remaining players are paid out.

Blackjack

Between you and the dealer the closest person to 21 wins. Sounds easy enough? Well… It’s not quite that simple….

lackjack, also known as 21 is one of the most sought after games in the casino. Because of its popularity there are many spin-off games and variations of Blackjack. “Spanish 21” and “Blackjack Switch” have the same concept as original Blackjack but with a twist. There is also, Blackjack “Perfect Pairs” and Blackjack “Lucky ladies”. These games are original Blackjack but

with side bets. Along with perfect pairs and lucky ladies there are many other side bets; these are separate bets that you make before the cards are dealt.

Possibly, you have ventured out to one of these tables and have found yourself getting yelled at by a group of frustrated gamblers? It’s not because they don’t like you or you smell bad. There is reason behind their anger and it has to do with the decisions you are making during the game.

How to Play

After all bets are placed, cards are dealt in a clock wise motion starting with the first player to the left of the dealer. All players receive two cards. Every card is dealt face up except for the dealer’s second card. The dealer’s second card is slid underneath their first “face up” card. If the dealers “face up” card is a ten value card they will immediately check for a Blackjack. If the card showing is an ace they will first ask for insurance then check for a Blackjack. After all cards have been placed, the player directly left of the dealer is first to act. This player is now faced with the decision to either take another card to add to their total, stay with their current total, or in special cases either split or double down. After the player makes their decision the dealer proceeds to the next player… and so on. After all players have finished, the dealer then shows their “face down” card and announces their total. If their total is less than seventeen they take additional cards until their hand reaches 17 or better. The dealer always stays with 17 or better. If the dealer hand goes over 21 everyone that is still in the hand wins. (EX. Scenario: The dealer is showing an 8, they show their face down card and it is a 5, now a total of 13. The dealer must continue until 17 or better or bust, the next card is a 6, the dealers total is now 19. The dealer stays at 19 and pays out players with 20 and 21. Any player with a 19 will receive a push.)

Rules of Blackjack:

After reading the “How to play” and “common terms” section you are going to need to know the

rules of the game. Our rules section complies with the majority of casinos. Some casinos will have

slight variations on what you can and cannot do. First off, after “no more bets” have been called by

the dealer your wager is locked in for the hand. You will receive two cards this is where you hit,

stand, double down or stay.

You can double down on any first two cards only, unless you split.

You can only split cards that are the same value.

You can double down for less… up to your original bet.

You can double down on your split.

You can take as many cards as you want until you bust.

The dealer will stay on 17 or better.

Aces count as either one or eleven.

Blackjack Side Bets:

The Blackjack side bet is a separate bet from the main game. Explained earlier, these are isolated

bets that you make before the cards are dealt. These bets do not affect the game or the hand played,

they are addressed directly after you receive your first two cards. Remember, these are only an

option. You do not have to play these. Every casino will have Blackjack but some casinos will have

different side bets associated with the Blackjack games. Your chances of cashing in on one of these

bets are fairly low; however, the payouts are very high. For example, one of the most popular side

bets for Blackjack is “Perfect Pairs”.

Perfect Pairs Side Bet

Minimum Bet $1 Maximum Bet $1000 (varies by casino)

Mixed Pair - First two original cards are any combination of the same card with different colored suits. Ex., 8 of clubs with an 8 of hearts. (Same card, different colored suits). PAYOUT IS 6-1

Colored Pair - First two original cards are any combination of the same card with the same colored suit. Ex. 5 of spades with 5 of clubs. (Same card, same colored suits). PAYOUT IS 12-1

Perfect Pair - First two original cards are the exact same card. Ex., King of diamonds with a King of diamonds. PAYOUT IS 25-1

As you can see, the payouts range from 6-1 to 25-1. This does not mean that every 6th hand you will

get a mixed pair or every 25th hand you with receive a perfect pair, this is only what the casino will

pay you.

Blackjack Switch

With the same framework as original Blackjack, Blackjack Switch involves some very unique options that are allowed and recommended during gameplay. Just always remember that these amazing options and advantages never happen imbalanced.

o switch? Or not to switch? Blackjack Switch is the only game that allows you to completely change your hand during gameplay. You play two hands and are immediately faced with the decision to switch, or not to. It is not a trick but maybe a slight illusion. If you decide to play Blackjack Switch you are awarded with this great power to change cards. Although, this

power comes at a cost, the cost being, the added house advantages. Such as… your Blackjacks are paid even money and everyone pushes on 22.

How to Play

Again, the object of the game is to have closest to 21 without going over. Basically, Blackjack Switch is double Blackjack. You bet two spots, you receive two hands and you have double the options as regular Blackjack. You will begin by receiving your two hands and when it is your turn to act, your first option will be to either stay or switch your second card on your first hand to your second card on your second hand. (You may only switch the last placed card on each hand.) After your decision is made, you can now play out your hand as regular Blackjack. Remember, the dealer pushes on 22; this can be discouraging as it is possible to push and win nothing with two 21’s.

Blackjack Switch Additional Rules

The dealer will hit on a soft 17

The dealer pushes everyone if they make a 22

Blackjacks are paid EVEN money

You may only switch the last card received (with the last card received on your other hand.)

Bets on each hand must be equal to each other

Side bets

The Super Match side bet gives a sense of poker into this Blackjack game. Allowing you to cash in on any pair, 2 pair, and 3 of a kind or 4 of a kind you might receive with in your original 4 cards. The pay outs are as followed…

Pair 1-1 2 pair 8-1 3 of a kind 5-1 4 of a kind 40-1

Spanish 21

They took away the ten’s and Spanish 21 was born. Spanish 21 is another Blackjack variant with the same objectives and concept. You, split, hit, double down and stay, get as close to 21 as possible

panish 21 really just shows how amazing the removal of one card can drastically change the game. This is why there is a separate basic strategy card for this game. Also, Spanish 21 includes an altered set of bonus payouts. For example, there are odds on a 21 consisting of 3 7’s or 5 cards or more. Regular Blackjack players can struggle at this game because they do not

realize exactly how different it really is. Most of the time, without the “ten” you are more likely to get to 21 without going over. Just be careful, because the same goes for the dealer…

How to Play

Just like Blackjack you will find yourself at a table with a very similar layout. There will be a few slight differences that you notice, mostly pertaining to all the different bonuses that are included during gameplay. Betting is the same, just with a different side bet and payout odds. If you are not familiar will Blackjack gameplay, please reference the “Blackjack” section of this guide book. Although, the gameplay is the same, many rules have been changed, they are as followed…

Additional Rules for Spanish 21

Blackjacks are always paid (even if the dealer has a Blackjack).

You can draw additional cards after splitting aces.

Rescue is offered after you have doubled down. (If you do not like the outcome of your double down, you have the option to Take back half your bet and forfeit half your bet).

Side bet (Match the Dealer) This optional side bet is perfectly self-explanatory. You need to match one of your cards with the dealers face up card. The payouts are as followed. Unsuited Match 3-1 (Unsuited, matching the dealers value card with different suits). 2 Unsuited Matches 6-1 Suited Match 12-1 (Matching the exact same card with the dealers face up card). 2 Suited Matches 24-1

asic strategy cards are provided as they are proven to increase your chances of winning. Strategy cards are essential to casino gaming and a guideline to success. It is very important to stick to the guidelines of the strategy cards and try not to go with your “gut” feeling as your chances of winning will quickly diminish.
