Doug Johnson - The Marketing Store Doug Johnson is the Managing Partner of The Marketing Store in Chicago, the #1 Marketing Agency on the Promo Top 100 list for Sweepstakes Promotions. Doug leads the agency of 125 artists, engineers, toy-makers, tinkerers, strategic gurus and digital wizards that work on amazing projects including The MONOPOLY Game at McDonald’s. He has a passionate belief in the staging of memorable experiences at every possible guest interaction. He was

named the Best Experience Stager in the Country in 2008 and he has received 6 other awards for marketing excellence. Doug designed experiences and consumer innovations for eleven years within 150 shopping malls at General Growth Properties, the second largest shopping center owner in the U.S. and in baseball for 5 years, including 4 years with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Everything matters and everything speaks. The experiences we create on our campuses can influence decisions and every detail (even the small ones) must be considered.

Through his own experiences, Doug will share stories that will teach and inspire you to create your own memorable moments on your campus. From his time working with the Chicago Cubs, and then working for Santa Claus, and now working for the agency that runs the world’s largest promotion, Doug will share strategies and ask questions that you will be able to apply immediately with your team. Get ready to have fun and get ready to sweat the small stuff.

Matt Hyde – Director of Admissions at Lafayette CollegeThe role of an admissions professional can be boiled down into innumerable responsibilities. Chief among them: engaging, exciting and inspiring the teenage brain. Sounds simple, but is it? Think about the complexity of the human brain. Now think about the complexity of that brain amidst rapid fire development, because that is our medium for doing business. So, let’s collectively learn more about

teenage brains and how we might want to leverage the moments we have with them on our campuses. From there, launch into the CIVSA conference with the perspective and energy you need to make the most of your time in Chicago.

Opening Session - The Campus Visit & the Teenage Brain

Devorah Heitner – Raising Digital NativesWe have all seen fantastic things happen because of a tweet, a Linked In connection or a Facebook reconnect. We have also all heard cautionary tales, or even experienced a text or snapchat gone wrong, or felt alienated as someone uses technology as we try to talk with them face to face. Devorah’s talk will address the challenges and opportunities social media offers -- with a focus on engaging across generations as part of the college visit

experience and in a multi-generational workplace.

Whether that means a 26 year old professional engaging with 52 year old parents as part of a college visit, or being a 42 year old professional engaging with the 18 year olds on your tour and your younger and older colleagues... How can you get along, see the humor and challenges in perspective and make the most of your own digital footprint as part of your own career development? Take advantage of the latest research to understand the different generations you work with to maximize the success of your engagements.

Closing Session - Mind the Gap!: Digital Communication Across the Generations

CIVSA has long been recognized as a leader in educational programming for information and visitor services professionals. Our conferences are designed with our members in mind and planned by a diverse and dynamic team of experts in the field; all working together to produce a substantive program filled with best practices and inspiring ideas. Our educational sessions are led by CIVSA members and tap into a wealth of experience that will help invigorate your program. These Master Classes are designed to help educate, inspire and provide the resources you need to make a difference on your campus.

We hope you will join us in a CIVSA Kind of Town! for a unique opportunity to network with professionals in an atmosphere of true cooperation and collaboration.
