When i t comes to our chi ldren ’s future ,
most of us wish we knew the secret to
success and happiness . As educators and
parents we of fer opportuni t ies , fos ter

our youth in the hope they wi l l f lour i sh and
grow .
Despi te these ef for ts , recent reports
suggest our young people are fac ing tough
t imes dur ing the i r t rans i t ion f rom school to
work . Accord ing to reports by the
Foundat ion fo r Young Aust ra l ians , the
average t ime i t takes to t rans i t ion between
fu l l t ime s tudies and fu l l t ime work i s 4 .7
years , and over hal f our youth under 25 are
unemployed ( 1 ) . The growth of Indust ry 4 .0
technolog ies i s changing everyth ing about
how we re late at work and best ut i l i se our
sk i l l s , whi l s t pol i t ica l , soc ia l and
env i ronmenta l upheava ls are chal lenging
the establ i shed wor ld order .
These sh i f t s , in addi t ion to the dramat ic
changes across indust r ies and job types ,
wi l l see the average person change jobs up
to 17 t imes , spanning across up to 5
di f fe rent careers .
