Since 1937, with the exception of t he war yea rs, the d ivision of music has developed superior ba nds. The present organization has achieved remarkab ly fi ne results since its inauguration last September through the dyna mic leadership of the d irector, Benedict T. Ha llgrimson. Many outstand ing high school graduates and ret urned veterans, including scholarship w inners, are members of the band.
Music scholarsh ips, entitling winners to free private weekl y lessons with facu lty members, have been he ld by seventeen students duri ng the cu rrent year . Automatic eligibility for a scholarship is effected th rough w inning the highest ra ting in a reg iona l competition-festival. Similar ach ievement in a district festival is important in making a bid for this honor. Persona l auditions for interested candidates may be ar ranged at any t ime by appointment w ith the head of the division of music, Professor W iiiiam Lloyd Rowles.
