Talents Unlimited is a teaching/learning program that
improves students' critical and creative thinking skills
within the context of classroom curriculum. One talent,

the ideas more interesting. The focus of this talent is
originality; the student must be a kind of inventor
thinking of new and creative ways to look at a problem.
Assignment:

a list of as many, varied, and unusual ideas or
solutions to our Gulf Oil Spill.
Discussion:
• As a group, read all the responses and
eliminate any duplication in phrasing that
expresses the same idea. Were any of your
ideas creative and original?

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Synectics is a dialectical
method of solving problems using metaphors or analogies. It was
created to help businesses come us with innovative solutions and
new products. The process was named from the Greek syn (meaning
bring together) and etics (meaning diversity) because it require

Try some other ways of using synectics-
Direct analogies: How is fear like a grapefruit? Which is harder, a rock
or a scream?
Personal analogies: Pretend you are your favorite animal. What are you?
How do you feel? What do you want th most?
Compressed conflicts: What actions are like living death? What animal is
like submissive independence?
Try creating a political cartoon by matching a political issue with
a children's story and creating an analogy.
Issues Stories
Pollution Drugs Cinderella Jack and the
Homelessness Gun Control The Three Bears Beanstalk

Find out from amongst the four alternative figures which would look like the one when
the paper is folded at the dotted line. [Note that in each question, the top the figure is
that of the transparent paper and below it the four answer figures are given].

folded into 30dimentional objects. They cannot have overlapping pieces or any holes.
The finished object must be complete on all sides. Your assignment is to make nets
for the following shapes.
Example:
1x1x3 1x2x3 2x3x3
