It was a memorable kick-off for the Conklin Destinations program. With Branson, Mo., the music capital of the Midwest as the backdrop, Conklin owners Charles and Judy Herbster spent quality one-on-one time with PaceSetters Tim Bush and his fi ancée Holly Cramer from Ohio and Jim and Lisa O’Brien of Illinois on the Bronze

Level Destinations trip.

Trip is within reach“I found out about the PaceSetter program through the Conklin reference guide,” said Lisa. “I started asking questions and I then realized that this is something Jim and I could really achieve. I thought we might win this trip.” Lisa, who enjoys traveling, said that earning the Bronze level trip to Branson really motivated her to become a PaceSetter and then a District Manager. “It was a fabulous weekend and spending time with the company’s owners, Charles and Judy Herbster was wonderful,” said Jim. “If people would set their goal to earn a Destinations trip, our message to them is that it’s very obtainable. In June, new District Managers Jim and Lisa enjoyed their second Destinations trip, the Silver Level to Hawaii. For Jim, the trip was an opportunity to get away from the grind and the responsibility on the family farm, “I love to travel. This is a great way to see things outside your own hometown.”

Advice from the ownersTim Bush echoed the sentiments shared by the O’Briens. “The best thing is getting to spend one-on-one time with the owners of the company. That adds to my personal story when I go out and talk to people about Conklin.” Tim said his sponsor, Doug Peters, was a great help in understanding the PaceSetter program. “He guided me through the objectives one step at a time. I told Doug, ‘I want to get to Sales Manager as soon as possible.’ Doug said ‘I have just the program for you.’” Tim added that he fi rmly believed the PaceSetter program helped him get a great start in his Conklin career. “It helps you become a strong leader in the Conklin Company.” He said it teaches you from the beginning to work with your people and how to duplicate yourself which leads to the SDI bonus. “If you’re working with your people to help them earn bonuses, you’re also going to enjoy bonuses. The PaceSetter program helps you build a large, viable organization.”

In the fall of 2005, aspiring Directors Larry and Teresa O’Brien were driving home after attending Conklin’s Back to the Basics (BtoB) training when they realized something was wrong with their business.

“It was a six-hour car ride home, so we had a lot of time to talk,” said Teresa. “We came to the conclusion we were focusing too much on ourselves and not enough on how to help develop the people on our team into managers. When we changed our philosophy, it seemed like the ball really started rolling.”

The O’Briens say the message behind BtoB helped give direction to their Conklin business. “Back to the Basics makes you decide if you really want to be in Conklin. They give you many techniques for motivating your team. It’s up to you to apply what has been presented.”

Two Destinations TripsWhat happened? Eight months after BtoB training, Larry and Teresa have been appointed Directors and traveled to Hawaii on the Gold Level Destinations trip. For developing their next two District Managers in a twelve-month period, they’ll be cruising the Caribbean on the Silver Level Destinations trip in January.

Overall for the fi rst half of 2006, their resume includes the development of four personally sponsored District Managers.

Friends firstAnother strong emphasis of the BtoB is goal setting. “We make sure we sit down with people on our team and fi nd out where they want to go with their Conklin business. This shows them we sincerely care about their well-being.”

Larry and Teresa are proud of what they’ve accomplished this year, but are quick to point out that the accolades belong to their team. “We have so many good people around us,” said Larry. “They’re not just members of our organization. They’re our friends.”

Listening is keyAlan and Susan Sterchi, who were appointed District Managers in January, were the fi rst people Larry and Teresa sponsored. The Sterchis marvel at the O’Brien’s knowledge, dedication and compassion. “Larry knows how to talk to people,” said Alan. “He doesn’t just dive in and start talking about products. He gets to know the person and fi nds out what their needs are.”

People fi rst, product second is the philosophy of this team. “The relationship has to come fi rst before you put a product in front of them,” said Larry. “Then the product discussion begins, you’ve built a trust level with that person. In the agricultural community, that is so important. You’re dealing with a person’s livelihood

and you might be asking them to change the way they’ve done business for two or three generations.”

Watching the team developEven though the O’Briens are extremely busy people, Alan says they make time to stay in touch with their team. “Larry will call me up out of the blue and ask how things are going,” he said. “He’s always concerned about my business.” Alan and Susan’s growing Conklin career, included the Successful Sales Manager training and a Silver Level Destinations trip to Hawaii in June.

The Destinations fever in Larry and Teresa’s organization was also caught by new District Managers Kenneth & Beverly Page and Jim & Lisa O’Brien who joined the couple in Hawaii. Another team member, Scott Opp, was awarded the Silver Level Destinations Caribbean cruise.

Listening area aheadIn the high tech world of computers, emails, palm pilots and cell phones, Larry says the art of listening is still the best communication tool. “Every person is different and the only way to help them is to listen.” That’s good advice from someone who has seen results with this tactic.

Hang Loose!Golden advice from Directors on the move

The defi ning moment of a Destination It was 10:30 on Saturday evening. The view was breathtaking and the ocean was calm. In the distance, the lights of a cruise ship cast a spotlight on the water. After a busy day fi lled with friends, laughter and adventure, this was Larry and Teresa’s time to enjoy each other’s company. Hand-in-hand, they slowly walked along the beach and gazed over the vast Hawaiian landscape around them.

“It felt like a dream,” said Teresa. “We couldn’t believe we were actually in Hawaii. It was such a perfect night and it was just the two of us.”

Their home in Olney, Illinois seemed a million miles away. Just a few days before this magical walk, Larry and Teresa were scrambling to tie up loose ends on the home front. “It seemed stressful at the time, but we wouldn’t trade a single minute of our Destinations trip.”

When Larry and Teresa returned to Illinois, the fi rst two questions to their organization were, “Would you like to go on a Caribbean cruise with us in January?” and “How can we help you get there?”

A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY to a

SUCCESSFUL CAREER

For two-and-a-half days, they gathered together in an intimate setting - learning, laughing and answering some tough questions about their futures.

By the end, the attendees left with more confidence, a deeper understanding of the business philosophy and tools for Conklin IBOs. They also left with new friends who would be there to share the journey with them. It was tough at times, admitted District Manager Alan Schroeder of Lincoln, Neb. “A gut-check” are the words Alan uses to describe those two-and-a-half days at Conklin s̓ Successful Sales Manager Training (SSM) last fall. “I had to look deep in my heart for the answers.” Do it again in a heartbeatAnd would Alan attend SSM training again? Without any hesitation in his voice, he answered “yes.”

“I would recommend this training to everyone who is serious about building a Conklin business,” said Alan, who has earned Sponsorship Development Incentive bonuses (SDI) in 19 of the 21 months he has been with Conklin. Over this period, Conklin has put an extra $5,552 in Alan s̓ pocket. This Conklin incentive combines sponsorship efforts with volume requirements which equals unlimited earning potential for managers.

Alan s̓ appreciation for the training is shared by his classmates. “Without any question, I wouldnʼt be at this stage of my Conklin career if I hadnʼt attended SSM training last year,” said Tom Jackson, a new District Manager and PaceSetter who just returned from the Destinations trip to Hawaii.

A hands-on approach Tom, a high school diesel mechanics teacher from Ohio, said having Conklin President Charles W. Herbster lead the class was very inspiring. “To see his dedication and belief in Conklin was special. Sitting down with him and being able to ask him any question on my mind gave me a lot of insight into Conklin. It gave me peace of mind that this was the right place to be for me.”

His confi dence in Conklin shows. In January, Tom achieved one of his goals by bringing four people on his team to the National Convention in Louisville.

He’ll be there for the fi rst pitchJoe and Darlene Boyd said the SSM training gave them a sense of hope for their new family. In March, Darlene gave birth to the couple s̓ fi rst son, Gavin. “Having our own business and being in charge of our hours gives us freedom to know that someday, we will be able to attend our son s̓ baseball games at three in the afternoon. When you work for somebody else, that s̓ not possible.”

The Boyds will make sure SSM training becomes part of the curriculum in their organization. “Every new Sales Manager in our organization will attend this training,” said Joe. “That s̓ our goal. We see those two-and-a-half days almost as a mandatory part of being in this business.”

Darlene said the SSM training brought her out of her shell. “Before the training, I was a shy person who didnʼt like to stand in front of people and talk. I couldnʼt see myself as a leader. Now, Iʼm not nervous and I look forward to talking with people about Conklin.”

SSM teaches the importance of communication. One of the tools that SSM attendee Wally Schroeder appreciates is VoiceLink, Conklin s̓ voice messaging system that connects IBOs, the corporate staff and ownership.

“VoiceLink keeps you connected to the day-to-day business activities happening inside Conklin. It is also valuable because it keeps you connected to Charles and Judy. “If I have a question for Charles, I can call his VoiceLink number, and know heʼll return my call. You build a relationship with the ownership at SSM and that bond only becomes stronger as you build your business.”

With each passing day, these attendees are still fi nding ways to apply knowledge from SSM to their businesses. “That s̓ the sign of a great training,” said Carla Schroeder. “You fi nd yourself still benefi ting from it long after it s̓ over. That s̓ why we highly recommend SSM.”

FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS

Dustin Pagone doesn’t like when people kick his auto repair creeper while he’s

working under his Jeep.® But this time, he admitted the kick knocked some sense into him.

The person on the other end of the kick was District Manager Ellis Harris of Colorado, who operates a repair and fabrication business in Paonia. He would watch his employee, Dustin, log eight hours at his regular job, then spend another seven or eight hours more in the shop preparing his Jeep for an upcoming off-road race.

Ellis and his wife, Ilene knew how passionate Dustin was when it came to his Jeep, but they could see there wasn’t enough time for a job, a young family and a hobby. One night, when Dustin was under his Jeep, Ellis asked him a question, “How long can you keep this pace up?” He told Dustin he needed a career that could give

him the freedom so he could have time for his family and enjoy his hobby.

Ellis told Dustin that he needed to experience Conklin’s Corporate Training and get a bigger picture of what the company could offer his family. Dustin had heard this advice before, but he always had an excuse why he couldn’t attend. “Dustin hadn’t thought about building an organization or the idea of residual income,” said Ellis. “He was mainly interested in the products. I asked Dustin, ‘What if you earned enough money in your Conklin business to hire somebody to work on your Jeep?’” This time, something clicked.

Couldn’t fi nish the jobWhen Ellis fi nished his talk, Dustin went back under the Jeep, but couldn’t focus on the task at hand. “I couldn’t get his words out of my mind.”

Soon after, Dustin said he took the advice to heart and attended Corporate Training. Fueled by his new knowledge and excitement gained at the training, Dustin quit

his job to devote his energy toward Conklin full-time and he hasn’t looked back. “Corporate Training is what changed my whole life.”

“He’s excited,” said Ellis. “Since Corporate Training, he hasn’t slowed down. It’s hard to contain his energy. We have to tell him to come up for air.”

“I’m really fi red up about where Conklin is taking me,” said Dustin. “This company has the greatest products in the world.”

How revved up is Dustin? When most people leave the house in the morning to go to work, they carry a briefcase. Well, Dustin carries a suitcase packed with products, demo accessories and plenty of contracts. “It must weigh 35 pounds and that thing is nearly empty most nights,” laughed his sponsor, Trey Denison. “His greatest product is his own personal testimonial. When he tells his Conklin story, people listen.”

Up and out the door“I used to hate getting up and going to work,” said Dustin. “Now, I can’t wait to see the sun each morning and get each day started so I can go out talk and to people about Conklin and see how our products can help them. It’s a great feeling.”

Why was this change made? Sending commission notices, product updates and vital company information via the Internet will be more effi cient with this system.

One more stopIt took Adam and Lisa Bryant a little longer than expected to get home after attending Corporate Training.

That’s because they were so fi red up that they had to make a stop and add the

fi rst IBO to their new Conklin organization. This post-Corporate Training enthusiasm has continued for Adam and Lisa who do three to fi ve Conklin demonstrations per day. Adam also assists his IBOs by going on calls with them four to fi ve times per week. The Bryants have helped with fi ve fi eld trainings and hosted one event. Adam and Lisa stress the value of trainings to their IBOs by attending the events with them.

“Anyone who comes in contact with Adam and Lisa learns about the Conklin opportunity,” said Keith Steiner, the Bryant’s manager. “They do this with a positive attitude and a tremendous belief in the products.”

Earning the rewardsTom and Anne Ziel have a “can do” attitude when it comes to Conklin products and the business opportunity.

“They are committed to building the business with a team approach,” said Tom Warschefsky, the couple’s manager. “They talk to everyone about the values of the company and how it can help them grow. They also actively participate in fi eld trainings and in our organization meetings.”

It was the Ziel’s drive and motivation, according to Tom Warschefsky, that helped propel these Sales Managers to the District Manager level in April when they developed two Sales Managers. With this, they earned the Silver Level Destinations trip – a cruise to the Caribbean. Earlier this year, Tom and Anne earned a Bronze Level Destinations trip to Branson.

“Going on a Caribbean cruise will be a great way to start 2007,” said Tom. “If we started packing now, maybe the trip would get here sooner. The Destinations program is a great incentive for keeping you energized the entire year.”
