• Get away from the normal distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God's face. DRINK LOTS OF WATER! (Water cleanses, detoxifies & replaces liquids in foods you’re not eating).

• Journal: write 3 things daily you’re grateful for during your fast. i.e. I woke up this morning. • While fasting, you may want to cut back or eliminate some things such as: watching television,

engaging in social media, telephone conversations, texts, personal email, reading the newspaper, secular magazines, books, certain events and social circles, etc… Carefully guard your eye-gate, ear-gate, mouth-gate (what enters and what comes out), and what you are inhaling = breathing (air & atmosphere which can be toxic because of associating with certain people, things, or situations). How to end your fast: Don't overeat when the time comes to end your fast. Begin eating solid food gradually; eat small portions or snacks. While fasting can be a personal thing and should always be lead by the Holy Spirit. Throughout the Bible there were many corporate fasts:

1. Judah (2 Chronicles 20:1-25) 2. Judah (Ezra 8:21-23) 3. Nineveh (Jonah 3) 4. The Jews (Esther 4:1-3; 9:1-3) 5. John the Baptist’s disciples (Matthew 9:14-15) 6. Church at Antioch (Acts 13:1-5) 7. Many churches (Acts 14:23) 8. Judah (Nehemiah 9:1-4) 9. Judah (Jeremiah 36:6) 10. Israel (Judges 20:26-35) 11. Israel (1 Samuel 7:6-14) 12. Many people (Matthew 15:32-39) 13. Paul and 276 men (Acts 27:33-34) Corporate fasting brings unity, and when we are on one accord, our hearts are turned to God, praying in one voice, humbling ourselves, seeking His face and turning from our wicked ways...God hears us from heaven, forgives our sins, and heals our land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Prayers, Meditation, and Study Tools You will want to gather some study tools so that you are prepared for our fast. Here are a few ideas that may trigger some ideas. 1. Read the Book of Daniel. It’s full of devotion for the Lord, prophesy for the future, and life lessons for today. 2. Faith Study. Use a concordance and look up scriptures that include the word “faith.” Choose a verse or passage and meditate on it, allowing the Holy Spirit to teach you. Then spend a few minutes writing in your Journal. 3. Conduct a Google search using this phrase: Andrew Murray public domain then select one of the books to use as a study. A great work is Absolute Surrender which would serve as a powerful study for your fasting experience. Andrew Murray is one of the great teachers of God’s Word. 4. Each day, write a short note to a friend, family member or whoever the Lord brings to your mind. This doesn’t have to be a long note, but just a few words of friendship and appreciation. 5. Do an in-depth study on forgiveness and work through some of the wounds that may still cause pain in your life. Use this fasting period to purify your heart of bitterness, pain, anger, and resentment that you may have. Pastor and Bible teacher R.T. Kendall has two excellent books on Total Forgiveness. One centers on forgiving others and the second book is on forgiving yourself. 6. Go to the Daniel Fast website where more devotional ideas are posted. 7. Do an in-depth study on fasting. 8. Cook dinner or run an errand for a family member, neighbor or friend. 9. Go for a prayer walk, pray silently or aloud as you’re walking. Sing praises to God! 10. Jesus gives us salvation . . . but He wants us to move on to transformation! This Daniel Fast can be a transforming time for you! The Lord rewards those who diligently seek Him! Give your attention and time to the Lord and He will reward you! The Daniel Fast for the Body, Soul and Spirit – Revised Edition 2011 Susan Gre

THE DANIEL FAST: FOOD LIST & RECIPES

Daniel 10:3-13 New International Version (NIV)

3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips;(A) and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank(B) of the great river, the Tigris,(C) 5 I looked up(D) and there before me was a man dressed in linen,(E) with a belt of fine gold(F) from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz,(G) his face like lightning,(H) his eyes like flaming torches,(I) his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze,(J) and his voice(K) like the sound of a multitude.

7 I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it,(L) but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. 8 So I was left alone,(M) gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left,(N) my face turned deathly pale(O) and I was helpless.(P) 9 Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.(Q)

10 A hand touched me(R) and set me trembling on my hands and knees.(S) 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed,(T) consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up,(U) for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.

12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid,(V) Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble(W) yourself before your God, your words(X) were heard, and I have come in response to them.(Y) 13 But the prince(Z) of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael,(AA) one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.

Curried Stuffed Peppers

Serves 4

Colorful and savory, this gluten-free, dairy-free dish brings an impressive presentation as well as healthful nutrients to the table. Served atop millet, it's a delicious change from the standard rice accompaniment, and an occasional sweet surprise of currant gives perfect balance to the saltiness of turkey sausage. Works wonderfully with vegetarian sausage too.

Ingredients

4 large bell peppers (any color), tops removed, peppers cored and seeded 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped 1/2 pound ground turkey or mild or spicy turkey sausage, casings removed 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 medium zucchini, finely chopped 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped 1/4 cup dried currants 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 cup plain rice, soy, or almond milk 1 tablespoon mild curry powder Salt and pepper to taste 4 cups cooked millet or quinoa, hot 1 lemon, cut into wedges (optional)

Method

Preheat oven to 350°F. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add peppers and cook for 3 minutes. Drain peppers and run under cold water until completely cool; set aside. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Add turkey or turkey sausage and garlic and cook, breaking up turkey with a wooden spoon, until evenly browned, about 5 minutes. Add zucchini, cilantro, currants and lemon juice. Cover and simmer over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove skillet from heat & set aside.

Arrange peppers in a shallow baking dish, hollow-side up, so that they are touching. Using a slotted spoon, divide turkey mixture between peppers, using all of the stuffing and reserving liquid remaining in skillet. Bring reserved liquid in skillet to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat to low, then whisk in rice, soy, or almond milk, curry powder, salt and pepper. Simmer, whisking constantly, until curry powder has completely dissolved, about 1 to 2 minutes. Spoon sauce evenly over each stuffed pepper. Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until peppers are tender. To serve, divide millet or quinoa evenly among 4 plates and arrange peppers on top. Spoon any liquid remaining in the baking dish on top of the peppers and serve, garnished with lemon wedges, if desired.

Fasting Testimonies and Tips from FBC Members!

Fasted on Daniel fast -- no meat. I prayed for stronger peace and discernment in my walk with Christ. I realized that I need not be so busy but to slow down for better quality time for my talks with God. I turned off TV earlier in evening, said my prayers and lifted up praises for being blessed with another day to serve God through my thoughts, words and deeds. Some of my co-workers said that after talking to me they too felt calmer and encouraged. Giving God the glory I give thanks for being blessed to be a quiet yet strong and loving prayer warrior for my family, friends, co-workers, FBC and my community. Anonymous Fasting for me is very calming. It helps me to slow down and focus on what is most important, the goodness of God. Gail Valentine I fasted and prayed to get a job. I got a job and now I’m getting a promotion. Brenda Epps I fasted prior to preaching my last sermon, as I had only received part of the message God wanted me to give His people. After fasting, The Holy Spirit revealed the full message and I was blessed and honored to deliver His message to the Friendship congregation! Minister Derrell Pratt TIP If you’ve been struggling with fasting, start by fasting one meal. During that time, pray. Reading your Bible is also a good thing to do during this time. Quiet yourself. Turn off the TV, computer, radio, cell phone and other electronic devices. Get away from distractions during this time. Listen for that still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-13 Health & Wellness Ministry This last fast, the prayer request was Brooke and her job pink slip layoff. We fasted and prayed… she went to the hearing about the layoff; her name was taken off the list before the hearing started... N.A.

I was fasting for an increase in my finances (storehouse). God blessed me with a raise in my current position as well as a second form of income. Bryson Haynes

My favorite fast is the Daniel Fast – we did it with the Choir for an entire MONTH and had a BLAST! It was noticeable in our voices and in our energy as well as with the unity of the choir (doing something as ONE was special to us!) – not to mention we also lost weight…. So each month that we do the Monday Fast, the Daniel Fast is the first choice I choose….

Many people believe that fasting has to do with abstaining from food. A spiritual fast involves our hearts and the way in which we relate to and trust God. It relates to our strength through what God might reveal to us about circumstances in our lives or which direction we should take in our lives. If you want to know God’s purpose for you on this earth, I strongly encourage you to seek God in prayer AND in fasting! La Juan Pedro Tip I always get really bad headaches when I fast and it sometimes detours me from wanting to continue. But I've learned that it’s your body’s way of saying you need more water. You can't drink the same amount of water as you drink during non-fasting times. Because you are not getting water from food you really have to increase your water intake. Not only that, but you also have to increase the frequency at which you drink water. We all know we need to drink plenty of water during fasting, but sometimes don't know exactly how much. I would say double your current intake. Health & Wellness Ministry

As you know Jesus tells us that some things only come by praying and fasting that kind of worship brings an intensity to your being like at no other time, but to live in this moment you must keep the prayer position. That is like Elijah in 1 Kings when he prayed for rain and he became as beside himself, his spirit speaking with his flesh. His spirit telling his flesh to look again and God will answer the prayer and his flesh responding to his spirit "I don't see anything yet" and the spirit saying once more look again and stay until you do, and the flesh say's "there is a cloud the size of a man's hand far in the horizon" and the spirit says to him again make hast and tell all that the storm is coming take shelter. The intensity brought Elijah into God's Rest, His bosom to where God was speaking to Elijah's inner most being. Because he did not move he stayed in the prayer position, although he wanted to, but fasting causes one to deny the flesh, which is one's logic and emotion and dwell in the secret place of the Most High.

This is the revelation and tip; when you are here you, you become like Job, and like Job He shall renew your Strength.

God Bless your strength and your light that His intensity may ignite all around you. Keven Mc Daniels Tip Prior to fasting, write down a plan and make a verbal or written commitment to the Lord. This keeps you strong and focused. When praying, fasting and living in obedience to God, He has promised blessings of provision, success, good health, restoration, deliverance, victory over enemies & more.
