Vincentian reflection Todayrsquos Gospel is a recounting of Jesusrsquo birth As we reflect on this well-known story of our
faith we can begin to reflect on the relationship between Jesusrsquo conception by the Holy Spirit and his birth which demonstrates the mystery of Godrsquos revelation and presence We hear about the two names given to the
Son of God the first being Jesus which means ldquoGod saves the people from their sinsrdquo The second name Emmanuel which means ldquoGod is with usrdquo Why were two names given to the same person These names uncover ldquothe presence of God among us is experienced most profoundly in the forgiveness of our sins This is the deepest mystery that we celebrate as we see how the joy of Christmas connects and points to the triumph of Easterrdquo As we celebrate the great mystery of Jesusrsquo birth dream the impossible God with us (Emmanuel) not as a condemnation but as Savior (Jesus) Paraphrase of the Living Liturgy p18

A Family Prayer for Christmas Loving God on this Christmas day we are filled with joy You have given to us the greatest gift your Son Jesus
born as a little baby He is the true light that scatters the darkness of this world You sent angels to announce Jesusrsquo birth The shepherds heard the angelsrsquo song of praise and they rejoiced in the Good News Fill our hearts with
love and peace to last throughout the coming year and through your Holy Spirit gently shape us into a holy family pleasing to you May the light of faith shine in all we do We make this prayer through Jesus Christ your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God for ever and ever Amen
