Things to Do…...

It’s the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the Home of the Blues and the starting point of soul. Music legends including Elvis

Presley, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, W.C. Handy and Otis Redding made their marks on Memphis, where you can hear

their influences today. To complete the “musical medley,” visit Graceland, Sun Studio, the Stax Museum of American

Soul Music and the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum. At night, take a walk down Beale Street and listen to the live music

Memphis makes today. We hope while you here, you can visit some of our wonderful tourist attractions.

THE BELZ MUSEUM OF ASIAN & JUDAIC ART: FREE TOUR throughout the duration of

the seminar. The FBA ILS will be offering a free tour of The Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art.

Your conference name badge is your admission ticket to the museum. Located at 119 South Main Street

in the Pembroke Square Building, the museum is one block west of the Peabody Hotel and is accessible

from the Main Street Trolley line. Founded in 1998, the Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art is

home to a diverse, world-class collection that spans the art of distinct cultures and time periods,

including imperial Asian art, contemporary Judaica, a selection of natural history objects and vari-

ous examples of art and craft from around the world. HOURS: (Closed Mon) Tues-Fri 10:00am-5:30pm; Sat & Sun: 12 noon-

5:00pm Visit the Belz Museum on the web at: www.belzmuseum.org for more information.

BEALE STREET: No trip to Memphis is complete without a walk down Beale Street. With over 25 clubs and

shops to choose from Beale Street has something to offer almost everyone. You could slip into Wet Willies and

get some of the best daiquiris on the street or you could mosey on down to Blues City Cafe and sample some of

the best ribs in the world. Art galleries, t-shirts, good music, getting your fortune told, strange cargo, you name it

and Beale St. probably has it. Be sure to join us on our group outing Saturday evening beginning at 6:00pm.

TROLLEY STOP TOURING: Ride in an authentic vintage trolley car along a breathtaking stretch of

the mighty Mississippi River. There's no better way to get a nostalgic glimpse of Memphis. All the

intricate details of the old trolleys have been faithfully restored to their original elegance. The Main

Street Trolley operates along the beautifully updated Main Street Mall and serves many downtown

landmarks. The famous Pinch District, Cook Convention Center, Civic Center Plaza, Court Square,

Peabody Place, Beale Street, National Civil Rights Museum, FedEx Forum and the South Main His-

toric Arts District can all be easily accessed by the Main Street Trolley. Riders can take the Riverfront Loop Trolley to visit the Ten-

nessee Welcome Center, the grounds of the Pyramid Arena and Mud Island with its Mud Island Monorail, the 5-block long River

Walk, and the Mississippi River Museum.

South. It features traveling exhibits as well as permanent exhibits & artifacts on the Mid-South's natural and

cultural history, an IMAX theater and the Sharpe Planetarium. www.memphismuseums.org

museum apart. The Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum offers a comprehensive Memphis music experience

from the rural field hollers and sharecroppers of the 1930s, through the explosion of Sun Studio, Stax and

Hi Records and Memphis’ musical heyday in the 70s, to its global musical influence. Stroll at your own

pace through the seven galleries featuring 3 audio visual programs, more than 30 instruments, 40 cos-

tumes and other musical treasures. The audio tour provides over 300 minutes of information, including

guides groups through museum exhibits and blacksmithing demonstrations in the smith. Visitors view the

Mississippi River from the sculpture garden. A unique small museum - Memphis' "Best Kept Secret."

takes from recording sessions, touch Elvis’ first microphone and hear the real history of the studio that

launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, B.B. King and many

more. What trip to Sun Studio would be

complete without adding to your music

collection or grabbing one of the best

milkshakes in town. Sun Studio is still an

active recording business for many nota-

ble artists including U2, JW-Jones, Hu-

bert Sumlin, Larry Taylor and Richard Innes, John Mellencamp and more.
